Our personalised winter hiking adventure gives you the chance to explore Scotland’s beautiful landscapes during the colder months, with expert guidance to enhance your skills and confidence. Whether you're keen to explore the local Cairngorms or venture to other iconic areas, this bespoke experience can be tailored to meet your specific goals and interests.
On this bespoke winter hiking experience, you’ll be guided through the striking winter landscapes of Scotland, whether that’s the well-known Cairngorms or another location of your choice. The day starts with a briefing on the route and necessary winter skills, including the safe use of axes and helmets. These skills are key to navigating icy and snowy terrains, and you’ll have plenty of time to practice with expert guidance.
Throughout the hike, you’ll not only be challenged to push your limits but also encouraged to embrace the mental and physical benefits that come with spending time in nature. After the hike, your guide will take time to discuss your experience, helping you build the confidence to continue your outdoor adventures independently.
Aviemore is an ideal base for this winter hiking experience, as it sits within the Cairngorms National Park, home to 55 Munros. The unique diversity of the Highlands provides an inspiring backdrop for winter exploration.
Participants should be in good physical condition and ready for a day of hiking in challenging winter conditions. While prior winter hiking experience is not required, an ability to walk for several hours and manage changes in terrain is essential.
The hike is suitable for anyone with a passion for nature, from beginners to more experienced adventurers.
Matt, the founder, is passionate about the outdoors and its ability to support mental health. The aim is not just to take you on a hike but to offer a transformative experience that supports your well-being. The time spent in the outdoors is about more than just physical challenge – it’s an opportunity to reflect, connect, and recharge. Matt’s personal approach and genuine care for participants make this an experience that will stay with you long after the hike is over.

The difficulty of the hike will vary depending on your fitness level and the chosen route. Some routes are more accessible and suitable for beginners, while others may be more challenging with steeper climbs or snowier terrain.
Your guide will tailor the hike to suit your experience and goals, ensuring you’re both challenged and safe.
No prior experience is necessary for this activity. The guide will provide all the necessary instruction and equipment to ensure you can safely enjoy the hike.
However, a good general fitness level and some previous hiking experience can make the experience more enjoyable.
You will need to bring your own crampons and stiff-soled boots, as these are not included in the package. Matt can arrange for this to be hired from local outdoor stores. It’s also important to wear appropriate clothing for winter hiking, such as moisture-wicking layers, waterproof outer layers, and a warm hat and gloves.
A full packing list will be provided upon booking.
The hike typically lasts for 5-7 hours, depending on the route and weather conditions.
The day will include breaks for rest, food, and reflection, as well as time to practise winter skills such as using your ice axe and crampons.
Safety is our top priority. If the weather conditions are too dangerous for hiking, the guide will assess the situation and, if necessary, adjust the route or itinerary.
If conditions prevent the hike entirely you can be rescheduled for a different day.
