Take the first step in your climbing journey with our Beginners Climbing Course. Designed for those new to climbing or with limited experience, the course teaches essential skills such as knot tying, belaying techniques, safety rules, and familiarity with climbing equipment. Experienced instructors provide personalised guidance throughout, ensuring you develop confidence and competence on the wall.
Over two sessions, you’ll gain a strong foundation in indoor climbing, starting with essential safety principles before progressing to climbing techniques and equipment handling. The first session introduces you to harness fitting, rope systems, and knot tying, with time to practise belaying under close supervision. Once you’re comfortable with the basics, you’ll move on to climbing movement, footwork, and route reading, all while learning to trust your belay partner and communicate effectively on the wall.
By the second session, you’ll put everything into practice, climbing a range of routes suited to your developing skill level. You’ll learn how to plan safe climbs, manage belay systems confidently, and work efficiently with a partner. Instructors stay on hand throughout to give individual feedback and ensure everyone progresses safely. At the end of the course, you’ll have the skills needed to climb without instructor supervision, ready to enjoy indoor climbing independently or bring friends and family along to climb with you.
Sessions take place at several modern indoor climbing centres across Bristol and Gloucester. Each venue offers excellent facilities with a range of climbing walls designed for teaching, from gentle vertical routes to slightly overhanging sections that help develop movement skills.
