Wing foiling combines elements of kitesurfing, windsurfing, and hydrofoiling into a fast-growing watersport that works well in Tarifa’s varied wind conditions. Lessons are available for all experience levels, from complete beginners learning the basics through to experienced riders improving jibes, tacks, and advanced foil control.
Wing foil lessons are structured around different progression levels, allowing you to join the course that best matches your current ability. Coaching takes place on Tarifa’s kite beaches using radio headsets for direct communication and real-time feedback during your sessions.
Discovery Course – Beginner Level
Ideal for complete beginners, this stage introduces the equipment, wind directions, safety systems, and basic wing handling on the beach. You’ll also practise riding on a SUP foil board, learning balance, control, and self-rescue techniques before progressing further.
Waterstart Course – Intermediate Level
Designed for riders already comfortable controlling the wing, this level focuses on lifting the foil out of the water and maintaining controlled rides. Sessions cover pumping techniques, stability, speed control, riding upwind and downwind, plus early turns depending on progression.
Advanced Course – Advanced Level
Advanced sessions are tailored to your individual goals and riding style. Coaching may include jibes, tacks, foot changes, swell riding, improved foil control, and refining transitions while riding in different conditions around Tarifa.
Lessons take place around Tarifa on Spain’s southern coastline, an area known for reliable wind conditions and a strong watersports culture throughout the year. Beaches such as Los Lances and Valdevaqueros provide wide open riding areas suited to both beginner and advanced wing foiling sessions.
Away from the water, Tarifa has a relaxed surf atmosphere with cafés, restaurants, and plenty of activity around the beaches during the wind season. Meeting locations are organised depending on the forecast and conditions for the day, usually around Agua Chiringuito.
Complete beginners are welcome on the Discovery Course, and no previous watersports experience is required to start learning wing foiling. Riders with backgrounds in kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing, or foiling may progress more quickly through the intermediate stages.
Participants should be comfortable in the water and prepared for physical activity in changing wind conditions. Lessons are adapted to individual progression, allowing riders to move forward at a comfortable pace.
Lessons are designed to keep progression structured while making wing foiling approachable for new riders. Smaller teaching groups, modern equipment, and radio headset coaching allow instructors to provide direct feedback throughout the session instead of only on the beach.
The school operates with updated gear, rescue support, accident and liability insurance, and flexible lesson structures suitable for both beginners and experienced riders. Tarifa’s wide range of wind conditions also allows students to experience different riding setups during their training.
No previous experience is needed for the beginner Discovery Course. Lessons start with basic wing control, safety systems, and balance exercises before progressing onto the foil board.
People with experience in kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing, or paddleboarding may find the learning process slightly quicker, but complete beginners are welcome.
Many people find wing foiling easier to begin because the equipment is more compact and there are no long kite lines to manage. The learning process is often more straightforward during the early stages.
Most beginners can start progressing towards independent equipment rental after around 6–8 hours of lessons, depending on conditions and previous experience.
The Discovery Course is best for complete beginners learning the fundamentals. Riders already comfortable controlling the wing can usually move into the Waterstart Course to focus on foil lift and riding progression.
Advanced riders looking to improve manoeuvres, transitions, or swell riding can book the Advanced Course for more personalised coaching.
Sessions normally take place around Los Lances and Valdevaqueros depending on the wind conditions and forecast for the day. Tarifa offers a range of conditions suitable for different experience levels.
Meeting arrangements are generally confirmed the evening before the session through Agua Chiringuito.
