Pick up a throwing axe near Blyth and learn the stance, release, and timing that send steel into the target face. Instructors coach every throw with clear safety habits, so beginners can enjoy Norse Hawk, tomahawk, hatchets, and knives in a lively outdoor session.
You start with a full safety briefing covering how to hold each tool, where to stand, and how to retrieve throws only when the lane is clear. Instructors demonstrate a clean rotation and help you find a comfortable grip before you take your first aimed throw at the wooden targets.
On the lane you practise short throwing sequences with coaching between attempts, building a repeatable motion rather than rushing for power. You can move between axe styles and knives as confidence grows, comparing sticks with friends in a friendly competitive spirit.
As the hour progresses you settle into a rhythm of throw, assess, and adjust, with staff keeping the line organised and encouraging. The session finishes once everyone has had solid time on the targets, leaving you with sharper technique and a memorable outdoor challenge.
Throwing lanes sit among fields and woodland on the edge of Blyth, giving you an open air setting with natural backdrops. It feels like a proper countryside activity base rather than an indoor entertainment venue.
Blyth is within easy reach of Sheffield, Doncaster, Nottingham, and Worksop, so day trips from those cities are straightforward. Spectators can usually watch from a safe spot while you throw.
No prior axe or knife throwing experience is required. Coaching covers grip, stance, and release from the first throw, so first timers are fully welcome.
Guests should be able to stand and throw underarm or overarm motions comfortably and follow lane instructions. Closed toe shoes and clothes you can move in help you stay balanced through the session.
You throw with a proper mix of kit, including Norse Hawk, tomahawk, hatchets, and knives, so the hour stays varied and engaging. Safety briefing and instructor presence come first, then plenty of throwing time.
Group sizes stay manageable for personal coaching, whether you arrive as friends, family, or a team day. The tone stays competitive and fun without feeling intimidating for newcomers.

Yes. The experience is built for first timers as well as guests who have only thrown casually before. Instructors explain grip, stance, and release before you take a live throw at the targets.
You practise at a steady pace with coaching between attempts. Mixed ability groups are normal, so nobody needs prior throwing sports experience to enjoy the session.
You throw with Norse Hawk, tomahawk, hatchets, and knives, giving you a varied feel across the hour. Instructors show the safe way to handle each tool before it leaves your hand.
All specialist kit is provided on site, so you do not need to bring your own axes or knives. Targets and lane equipment are ready when you arrive for the briefing.
The minimum age is 11 years old. Younger teens are coached with the same lane rules as adults, with clear guidance on distance and retrieval.
An adult should book and attend with under 18s in the group. If you are unsure whether someone is ready, ask the team before the day for practical advice.
Sessions run from a minimum of 2 people up to a maximum of 12. That keeps lanes organised while still suiting friends, families, and small groups.
Larger parties may be staggered across lanes so everyone gets fair throwing time and coaching. Share your numbers when you enquire so the team can plan the flow.
Plan for around one hour including the safety briefing and time on the targets. Pacing can vary slightly with group size and how quickly everyone settles into a repeatable throw.
Arrive a little early so you are ready when the briefing starts. A small buffer either side of the hour helps if parking or check in takes a few minutes.
Wear comfortable outdoor clothes and closed toe shoes so you can stand and throw with a stable base. Layers help because you may be outdoors for the full session in changing weather.
Avoid long dangling jewellery or very loose sleeves that could catch during a throw. Bring sun cream or a spare layer if the forecast looks bright, cool, or damp.
Yes. Every session begins with a clear briefing on lane rules, how to hold the tools, and when it is safe to throw or retrieve. Nobody throws until those points are understood.
Instructors stay with the group throughout, offering corrections and keeping the line orderly. The atmosphere stays fun with firm safety habits from the first throw.
Spectators are usually welcome from a safe viewing area away from the throwing lanes. This works well for partners or friends who want to cheer without taking a turn.
Please stay where staff indicate so lanes remain clear. If your whole party wants to throw, book enough places rather than relying on watching spots alone.
Throwing runs outdoors and is planned to go ahead in typical British weather whenever it is safe. Light rain or cool wind is often fine with suitable clothing and footwear.
If conditions make the lanes unsafe, the team will be in touch about rearranging. Check the forecast and bring layers so a damp day does not spoil the fun.
