Gain confidence on the water with a structured introduction to dinghy sailing. Over two days, you will practise essential skills under the guidance of qualified instructors, learning to steer, control sails, and handle a boat safely. The course is designed for complete beginners, with practical exercises and on-water support to make learning effective and enjoyable.
Sessions begin with on-shore briefings covering basic safety, boat layout, and sailing terminology. Guidance is provided for rigging and launching, ensuring you are confident before heading onto the water. Early exercises focus on controlling the boat and learning how sails interact with the wind.
Once afloat, you will practise manoeuvres such as tacking and steering while instructors provide hands-on support and feedback. Short periods of reflection on shore allow you to consolidate skills and prepare for the next practical exercise.
Later in the day, skills are combined to sail short courses in sheltered areas of the reservoir. You will have the opportunity to build independence while instructors observe and guide when needed. By the end of the two days, participants gain a solid foundation and confidence to progress to Level 2 sailing.
