This six-week course is designed for young climbers looking to build the basic skills needed to become a NICAS Level 1 climber. Over six 1-hour lessons, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of climbing, including essential safety measures, movement techniques, and equipment handling. The course aims to give each individual the confidence to safely climb under supervision and provides a structured pathway for progression to higher NICAS levels.
This course is designed for beginners and focuses on the basics of climbing. During the six sessions, participants will learn the fundamentals of climbing, including how to move efficiently on the wall, use climbing ropes and equipment safely, and understand the risks associated with the sport. Each session is a blend of theory and practical, ensuring that all climbers can apply what they learn right away. You’ll also develop key communication skills as you work together with your climbing partner, learning to trust and support each other while building confidence on the wall.
The course is structured to meet the NICAS Level 1 criteria, which means by the end of the sessions, climbers will have the necessary skills to progress to NICAS Level 2 and beyond. After completing Level 1, participants will be able to join the NICAS Youth Club to continue their climbing journey and develop further skills.
