



This 3-week course is designed for young climbers looking to develop their skills and become certified NICAS Level 1 climbers. The programme focuses on learning the basics of climbing while building confidence and safety awareness under supervision. By the end of the course, participants will be ready to progress to more advanced levels within the NICAS system.
Throughout the course, participants will be introduced to the essential techniques and skills needed to climb safely. The lessons are structured to build knowledge and confidence in areas such as climbing movement, rope-work, and risk management. The lessons will also cover climbing history and safety protocols, helping participants to understand the broader context of the sport.
By the end of the programme, climbers will have a solid foundation to take on more advanced climbing challenges. NICAS Level 1 focuses on safety and supervision, and by mastering these basics, climbers will be ready to continue their development towards NICAS Level 2 and beyond.
The course takes place in a safe, purpose-built indoor climbing facility located in North Devon. The centre features a variety of climbing walls and bouldering areas, offering a controlled environment where participants can develop their skills with professional guidance.
No previous climbing experience is required for this course, making it ideal for beginners. The course is designed for young climbers aged 6-17, and participants should be able to follow instructions and actively engage in the lessons.
The centre has been operating since 2007 and has grown into a trusted provider of outdoor activities and climbing sessions. With a dedicated team of experienced and qualified instructors, the centre prioritises safety and personal development.
Since the opening of our new bouldering cave in 2019, the centre has become the largest of its kind in North Devon, offering state-of-the-art facilities for climbers of all ages and abilities. Our passion for climbing and outdoor adventure, combined with our attention to detail and commitment to delivering unforgettable experiences, ensures every participant has the best possible experience.
The course is suitable for young climbers aged 6-17, with no previous climbing experience required.
Beginners are welcome, and the course is tailored to build fundamental skills.
No experience is necessary.
The course is designed specifically for beginners, teaching participants the basics of climbing in a safe and supportive environment.
The course includes three 2-hour lessons, professional coaching from experienced instructors, climbing equipment (such as harnesses and helmets), and access to the climbing facilities.
Participants will also receive a personal achievement record.
The lessons are available on Saturday or Sunday mornings, or on Wednesday after school, to suit different schedules.
You can choose the time that best fits your availability.
The course focuses on developing climbing movement skills, understanding safety protocols, learning rope-work, and building teamwork and communication.
By the end of the course, participants will have a foundation for progressing to NICAS Level 2.
