This extended snowmobile tour gives you access to two high-mountain lakes and one of the most striking glacial cirques in the Sierra de la Partacua. With time to explore deep winter terrain, visit a historic shepherd’s refuge at 1900m, and enjoy long stretches of varied snowpack, this route suits riders wanting a more complete mountain experience. Local guides lead the way to ensure the session is safe, well paced, and adapted to the conditions.
This route explores both valleys of the Sierra de la Partacua, using a mix of prepared tracks and natural snowfields that vary in depth and texture throughout the winter. After a safety briefing, the guide leads the group through sheltered forest areas before climbing steadily towards the first high-altitude lake: Ibón de las Paules. This section offers predictable snow conditions and wide terrain, helping riders gain confidence early on.
From Paules, the tour continues deeper into the mountains towards the Escarra Valley. The landscape widens dramatically as you enter the ancient glacial cirque, framed by walls rising roughly 600 metres above the valley floor. The area behind the Formigal ski resort provides excellent visibility and stable winter surfaces, allowing the guide to select safe and enjoyable lines. You will then reach the Escarra mountain lake before continuing to a traditional shepherd’s refuge at 1900m, used historically during summer grazing. Evening tours use this point as a dinner stop, though the daytime version includes a short break to appreciate the views.
The return journey follows a slightly different path depending on conditions, allowing you to feel how the snowmobile responds to familiar ground with increased confidence. Routes are adjusted regularly to remain safe across changing winter weather, and returning guests can request personalised alternatives if they have completed this activity previously.
This tour takes place in the Sierra de la Partacua, a region defined by steep ridges, deep cirques, and reliable snowpack. The Ibón de las Paules and Escarra lakes sit within a high-mountain environment shaped by centuries of glacial erosion. Their location provides consistent winter conditions and broad views across the Tena Valley.
The Escarra cirque is one of the most distinctive features in the area. Its steep natural walls create a sheltered basin where wind patterns, sunlight, and snow accumulation behave differently from the surrounding terrain. The refuge at 1900m offers insight into the valley’s pastoral history and gives riders a natural stopping point for photos and rest. The mix of open plains, forest zones, and glacial features makes this area ideal for an extended snowmobile tour.
A valid driving licence is required for anyone operating the snowmobile. Although no previous snowmobile experience is necessary, riders should feel comfortable following instructions and adapting to different snow surfaces. The guide will demonstrate the essential techniques before departure, including throttle control, braking, and safe positioning.
Passengers do not need experience or a licence. Participants should wear winter clothing that provides insulation and moisture protection, including snow gloves, waterproof layers, and sunglasses. The temperature can drop significantly at altitude, especially when riding at speed, so appropriate thermal layers are important for comfort.
This 2-hour route provides one of the most complete winter experiences available in the region, combining scenic travel with insight into glacial features and high-mountain terrain. The guide leads from a separate snowmobile, ensuring clear visibility and safe pacing throughout. Their understanding of snowpack patterns and seasonal variations helps create a route that works well for both beginners and experienced riders.
Our snowmobiles are automatic, two-seater machines selected for their stability, reliability, and comfort during longer rides. Each vehicle is maintained carefully to ensure predictable handling across softer and firmer snowpack. With the combination of high-quality equipment and expert guidance, you can enjoy the landscape while feeling supported throughout the excursion.
