We'll collect you from your hotel on Boa Vista for a 2-hour guided buggy circuit on the western coast. One buggy is shared by one or two people after a briefing in Rabil. Photo stops stay short so the morning keeps moving, then we drop you back.
The transfer from your hotel ends in Rabil, where the vehicle briefing, convoy spacing, and Category B licence check happen before anyone rolls out. Drivers who hold that licence take the wheel; passengers ride in the second seat. The circuit then follows the seashore toward Chaves beach, one of the long pale strands on this side of the island, before turning through the acacia stands of Clotilde Forest.
Clotilde Forest is the woodland pause, then the convoy climbs to the Chapel of Our Lady of Fatima for a look over the water. The last viewpoint is the panoramic sand dune at the Bay of Sal Rei, beside the island's main town. Your guide stays out in front on the coastal tracks so new drivers can settle after the briefing. The two hours cover that western belt, and hotel drop-off sits at the end.
Boa Vista's western belt packs pale beaches, low acacia woodland, and dunes into a short coastal strip. This morning stays on that line rather than crossing the island, so you see the seashore, the chapel above the water, and the sand rise at the Bay of Sal Rei in one circuit.
Rabil is the second town on Boa Vista and the usual start for off-road vehicles heading toward Chaves and Clotilde Forest. Sal Rei sits beside the bay where the route ends. The chapel and dune viewpoint look out over the same stretch of Atlantic.
Sand and sun sit close to the vehicle for the full two hours, so closed-toe shoes are the footwear we ask for, along with trousers or a bandana if you have them. Anyone driving needs a valid Category B driving licence and should be ready for sand and uneven tracks under guidance.
Passengers can ride without that licence. Shorts are fine if you do not have longer trousers. Previous buggy experience is not required. The circuit is rated easy, and the pace after the Rabil briefing is set so new drivers can settle in.
Crew who work these coastal tracks lead the morning from Rabil and know the chapel stop plus how the sand sits at the Bay of Sal Rei after the night wind. A clear vehicle briefing comes before you roll out, then we take you back to your hotel when the circuit ends.
Fifteen is the most we take, which keeps the convoy manageable on narrow dune tracks. A pair can share one buggy while a guide stays out in front on the same route.
Anyone taking the wheel must bring a valid Category B driving licence on the day of the tour. We cannot let you drive without that document, because the circuit uses public tracks and sand routes around Rabil and Sal Rei.
Passengers do not need a licence and can sit in the second seat of the same buggy. If you are travelling as a pair, decide in advance who will drive so the briefing in Rabil stays quick and you roll out with the group on time.
Yes. The booking is priced as one buggy for one or two people, so a pair can ride together on the same vehicle. One of you needs the Category B licence if that person will drive.
Solo travellers book a buggy to themselves and still join the same guided convoy. Your guide stays out in front on the coastal tracks, so you are not left guessing the line through Clotilde Forest or the dunes at the Bay of Sal Rei.
Collection from your Boa Vista hotel is part of the outing, then we take you to Rabil and drop you back after the two hours. The meeting town is Sal Rei, which is the main town beside the bay at the end of the route.
Tell us your hotel name when you book so we can set a collection time that fits the departure from Rabil. Pickup and drop-off sit around the core two-hour circuit.
Sand and sun sit close to the buggy, so closed-toe shoes, a bandana, and trousers if you have them make the two hours more comfortable. Covered feet and something to keep dust off your face help on the coastal tracks.
Shorts are acceptable if you do not have longer trousers. Bring whatever sun protection you already travel with. We do not provide clothing, so pack these items with you the night before pickup.
The guided circuit lasts two hours from the start in Rabil through to the return toward your hotel. That window covers the seashore run to Chaves beach, Clotilde Forest, the chapel stop, and the dune viewpoint at the Bay of Sal Rei.
Pickup and drop-off sit around that core time, so allow a little extra at either end depending on where you are staying. An earlier departure keeps the sand cooler than a midday start.
Children can ride as passengers when an adult with a Category B licence is driving the same buggy. Infant and child places are sold for younger guests as passengers rather than as drivers.
Every driver still needs that Category B licence, whatever the age of the passenger. If you are booking for a family, make sure the licensed adult is the person who will take the wheel after the Rabil briefing.
The route starts in Rabil and follows the coast to Chaves beach, one of the long pale strands on this side of Boa Vista. From there you drive through Clotilde Forest, an acacia woodland that is a natural pause for photos before the chapel.
The Chapel of Our Lady of Fatima sits above the water with a view back over the sea, and the last stop is the sand dune at the Bay of Sal Rei. We then return you to your hotel. The circuit stays on this western belt rather than crossing the whole island.
Buggy circuits on Boa Vista are only mildly affected by everyday wind and haze, which are common on this island. Light cloud or a breeze does not usually stop a departure, and the tracks around Chaves and Clotilde Forest still run in those conditions.
If a storm or flooding makes the sand routes unsafe, we will contact you about moving the booking. Keep an eye on the messages we send after you book, and have a flexible start time if the forecast looks unsettled.
Cancel 2 days or less before this buggy circuit and we charge a 100% cancellation fee. Cancel 6 days or less before and the fee is 50%. Cancel earlier than that, up to 1000 days before the event, and the fee is 0%.
Vehicles and guide slots are already assigned for the convoy, so write to us as soon as your plans change if you need another date. We will check whether a later departure from Rabil still has space.
No previous buggy experience is required. The circuit is rated easy, and your guide gives a vehicle briefing in Rabil before anyone rolls onto the sand. New drivers are welcome as long as they hold a Category B licence.
You should still be comfortable sitting in an open vehicle on uneven ground for two hours. If you would rather not drive, book as a passenger with a licensed companion and enjoy the same coastal stops from the second seat.
