Absolutely brilliant experience, would highly recommend to everyone!

If you feel ready to tour in a sea kayak and want the skills to explore on your own, this two-day intermediate course builds confidence in wind, tide, and incident scenarios. You should already understand your craft and environment and be ready to push your boundaries with coached mileage on Geopark coasts.
We develop your ability to paddle in a range of conditions so you can manage the craft and return safely if the environment changes. Solo paddling, incident management, deep-water rescues, rock landings, towing, and calling for help are practised in realistic coastal settings.
Day one focuses on technical control in sheltered water before progressing into open water and rescue practice. Day two emphasises incident management, surf and rock landings, and launching or landing in small surf on beaches and slipways.
Venues are chosen for the syllabus and forecast, with journeys of roughly 12 to 16 km across sites such as Oddicombe, Meadfoot, Paignton backwaters, Brixham and Berry Head, Dart access, and Teign routes.
You may train in our fleet or bring your own boat to learn how to get the best performance from the kayak you paddle most often.
You should be a confident paddler with prior sea kayaking experience, comfortable in wind around force 3 to 4 and familiar with basic self-rescue techniques.
We consider weather windows when scheduling so you have flexibility and we can pick suitable conditions. Tell us your paddling history when you request dates.
Coaching is delivered by experienced sea kayakers who work these coasts through the year, so examples and scenarios match real local conditions.
Small groups keep time for personal feedback on technique, rescue practice, and decision making during journey legs.
You should already be a confident sea kayaker, ideally after our two-day improvers course or equivalent structured training elsewhere.
Comfort paddling in wind around force 3 to 4 and familiarity with basic self-rescue techniques are important before you join this syllabus.
We provide kayaks, paddles, and safety equipment unless you arrange to train in your own boat. Bring swimwear or quick-dry layers, water shoes, sun protection, snacks, and drinking water for long days on the water.
Technical outer layers are issued when the forecast requires them. Transport to the daily meeting point is not included.
Participants must be 18 or over because the course includes demanding open-water work and incident-management scenarios.
Share any health considerations when you request a date so coaches can plan pacing and venue choice appropriately.
Complete our two-day improvers sea kayaking course first, or send your paddling log if you trained with another provider.
We review your background before approving a place to make sure the intermediate content is the right next step.
Day one builds technical control in flat and sheltered water, then moves into open water sections and self- and assisted deep-water rescues with time to repeat skills until they feel reliable.
Coaches link each exercise to how you would use it on a real coastal journey in Torbay or South Devon.
Day two focuses on incident management, communicating in a group, landing on surf and rocks, and launching or landing in small surf from beaches and slipways.
You practise scenarios that help you cope with most common problems on day trips after the course ends.
Total distance over the two days is typically in the 12 to 16 km range, split between skills sessions and guided journey legs.
Exact mileage depends on conditions and group pace; we prioritise quality coaching over covering distance quickly.
Yes, many intermediate students prefer to tune outfitting and rescue practice on the boat they paddle regularly. Tell us when you request a date so we can confirm the craft suits the planned venues.
Coaches can also suggest adjustments to skeg use, trim, and loading for touring days after the course.
We adapt venues and exercises to the forecast, using sheltered water for skills when wind or swell increases and returning to more exposed sections when safe to do so.
Your safety guides every decision; we may reschedule elements if conditions are unsuitable for the syllabus on a given day.
Many paddlers plan their own day trips using the rescue, towing, and landing skills from the course, or join guided Geopark tours for coached mileage without a fixed syllabus.
We are happy to suggest local routes and tide windows when you request follow-on dates after you graduate.

Absolutely brilliant experience, would highly recommend to everyone!
Kieran was an organised, pleasant, knowledgeable and interesting tour guide. Also clearly, a very good kayaka. The only critique would be the size of the group. It was just too long to get everyone geared up and at the cave for all kayaks to go into and out. Otherwise a…
Great, good local knowledge, friendly instructor. Lots of wildlife and little adventures had. Recommend.
Amazing experience, would highly recommend to anyone!
Jose was very friendly and helpful! The bikes he provided were great for the price, and we enjoyed a unique gravel bike adventure in Spain. There were very few other companies offering gravel bike rentals. I would 100% recommend this adventure with Jose to any travelers in Spain looking to…
It was really enjoyable. I had never done kayaking before but after some short, simple clear instruction I was confidently making it way along the coastline. It was great to see things from the water you would've otherwise have been able to get a view of. I would definitely do…
Excellent day out with super efficient Kieran and Sam. Even a novice like me finally cracked the code to a good kayaking. The caves, guided tour on geological formations punctuated by marshmallow roasting and fossil hunting truly enhanced the overall experience. Would love to do it again. Plus - a…
