Discover Scuba Diving is a perfect starting point. Lets cover all your questions and what to expect during the course

Confused about where to start your scuba journey or what the next step after open water is? We answer all your questions here.
The Discover Scuba Diving experience is designed to introduce the core elements of scuba diving in a relaxed, controlled setting. Though not a formal course, it includes foundational knowledge, skill practice, and an optional open water dive.
If conditions and time allow, you may proceed to a supervised open water dive (maximum depth 12 m / 40 ft, or 6 m / 20 ft for 10–11 year olds). This is typically conducted in a calm, shallow area with easy entry and exit points.
Your instructor will review your progress and discuss next steps if you’re interested in continuing to the PADI Open Water Diver course. You’ll also receive a Discover Scuba Diving recognition card (not a certification) and may be eligible for credit toward future training.
Each dive centre may tailor the experience slightly, but all follow PADI’s safety standards and instructional framework.
While Discover Scuba Diving is not a certification course, it opens the door to further scuba training and experiences. After completing the session, you’ll have a clearer sense of whether scuba diving is something you’d like to pursue further. In many cases, the skills you learn during your Discover Scuba Diving experience can be credited toward the PADI Open Water Diver course if you decide to continue within 12 months.
You’ll gain confidence using scuba equipment, understand basic diving safety, and experience the feeling of weightlessness and breathing underwater—often the most memorable moments for new divers. This experience also allows you to ask questions, get comfortable with the gear, and explore a safe underwater environment under close supervision. It’s a stress-free way to dip your toes into the world of diving, and many participants go on to complete their Open Water certification.
Discover Scuba Diving typically takes half a day (2–3 hours), including a short theory session, confined water skills, and an optional open water dive. Some centres may offer extended versions with additional time in the water.
Discover Scuba Diving from PADI isn’t a certification course, but rather an introductory scuba diving experience designed to give you a taste of what diving is like under the supervision of a certified PADI Professional. You’ll start with a short safety briefing covering basic scuba principles and equipment use, followed by a confined water session where you'll learn a few fundamental skills. Then, if conditions allow, you’ll head out for an open water dive up to 12 metres (40 feet). There’s no formal assessment or exam—your instructor will guide you every step of the way to ensure you're comfortable and safe. It’s a relaxed, supportive environment with a strong emphasis on safety and fun. If you enjoy the experience, it can be credited towards the PADI Open Water Diver course. You can browse and book Discover Scuba Diving experiences across the UK on adventuro.
