AIDA Competition Safety Freediver trains the people who keep competition platforms calm when an athlete surfaces late or not at all. This is not recreational rescue refresh dressed in a lanyard. You learn pool or depth safety roles under AIDA event standards, with fitness tests and team drills that expose weak swimmers quickly.
AIDA offers two pathways. The pool pathway covers STA, DYN, DYNB and DNF events in confined water to five metres with surface swim tests, dynamic skills and static bottom rescues. The depth pathway adds CWTB depth tests, solo and team rescues to 25 metres, multi-role safety drills and blackout scenarios in open water training to 40 metres. Centres may run one pathway or both depending on venue and local event demand. Ask before you travel assuming depth training is included.
Minimum course length is two days and fourteen hours, with at least three pool or three open water sessions per pathway. You need AIDA 2 level skills, prior AIDA competition experience as athlete, judge or organiser, and a 75% theory pass. Safety volunteering looks glamorous until the third consecutive four-hour pool shift. That is normal.
Competition Safety Freediver is assessed through fitness tests, practical rescue drills and theory under AIDA standards.
