RYA Dinghy Level 3 Better Sailing is the bridge between competent solo sailing and the advanced modules on the National Sailing Scheme. You arrive with Level 2 Basic Skills or equivalent skill, and your instructor coaches you until decisions afloat feel natural rather than rehearsed.
Most centres run roughly two days or sixteen hours on the water. Short tasters from Day Sailing and Seamanship Skills let you sample the next steps without booking a full specialist course yet. Some days focus on sail trim; others are the first time you hike out and the boat really accelerates. Both are valid.
Level 3 sharpens the sailor you already are. Clubs treat it as proof you are ready for passage planning, spinnakers or club racing. If gybes or heavy-air choices feel rusty, Better Sailing is the sensible reset before something more ambitious. Extra pool time is not a failure.
Bring food and water for long days. Sun protection matters even when the breeze feels cool on the water.
