What is BSAC?
The British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) is the national governing body for scuba diving and snorkelling in the UK. Its diver training programme runs from try dives and Ocean Diver through Sports Diver and Dive Leader grades, with rescue skills embedded early and nitrox training included in core courses.
BSAC qualifications are recognised internationally. Training is delivered through BSAC clubs and accredited centres: clubs often pace courses over weeks with regular pool and sea sessions, while centres may offer intensive blocks. The syllabus emphasises dive planning, rescue and progressive depth under qualified supervision.

Choosing a course
Discovery Diver is a shorter route into BSAC training; Ocean Diver is the full entry certification. Sports Diver and Dive Leader need logged dives, rescue competence and often club or centre continuity. If you hold another agency's card, leave a comment when you book so the centre can check BSAC equivalency.
Club and centre formats differ in pace, kit loan and boat access. adventuro listings show where you can book; the provider confirms schedules, medical fitness, eLearning options and what depth progression is realistic in UK seas.
