Gracias a Dios is the Mosquitia: lagoons, the Caribbean far east, and the Río Plátano Biosphere. There are no casual day hikes from a hotel breakfast buffet. You'll travel by boat and small plane, stay simply, and give the itinerary room to slip when rain or fuel delays a departure.
River travel, not a park stroll
Río Plátano days are motor-canoe or dugout, village hospitality and guided forest time. Hiking is whatever the operator can do from the river that week. Bring patience and kit that can get soaked. This is the opposite of a Roatán two-tank morning.
Time and operators
Give it its own week, or don't come. Open the Book here tab for expeditions in Mosquitia and Olancho. Read inclusions: boats, park permissions, and where you actually sleep.
