Mountaineering is what happens when a walk in the hills gets ambitious. You add ropes, an ice axe and crampons, and you start going where paths do not. It is hard work and often cold, and the views and the sense of having earned them are hard to beat.
It builds on hill walking. First you get comfortable with long days and steep ground, then you learn winter skills, navigation and how to move safely on snow and ice. From there the world opens up, from Scottish winter routes to alpine peaks and beyond.
The instructors and guides on adventuro run skills courses and guided ascents for every stage. Going with someone who knows the ground is the sensible way in, and you will pick up the craft far faster for it.
