The capital and the lake are the inland hinge of a Honduras trip. Tegucigalpa is a flight gateway with cloud forest on the doorstep. Lake Yojoa is paddling, birding and a night between the highlands and the north coast. You'll split time across Francisco Morazán, Comayagua and Santa Bárbara rather than treating this as one town.
La Tigra, the lake and the road spine
La Tigra is a day hike from the capital if you start early. Yojoa is the place for kayaking and binoculars, not for walls and wrecks. The CA-5 corridor ties Tegucigalpa, Comayagua and the lake toward San Pedro Sula, which is why this region shows up as a connector even when it isn't the headline of the holiday.
Where to sleep
Stay in Tegucigalpa only if your flight forces it, then get into La Tigra or onto the lake. Lakeside lodges in Santa Bárbara or the Comayagua approaches beat a city night if paddling is the point. From Yojoa you can push west toward Copán or north toward the coast without backtracking through the capital.
