The Tatras and Carpathians are Poland's high-mountain headline — granite ridges above Zakopane, Dunajec gorge days in the Pieniny and quieter Bieszczady hills further east. This is where summer trekking turns alpine and winter skiing and mountaineering need real mountain judgement. Zakopane, Pieniny and Bieszczady

Zakopane and the Polish Tatras drive alpine hiking, ridge days and guided mountaineering. The Pieniny add Dunajec rafting and gorge walks suited to beginners. Bieszczady offers wilder, less crowded Carpathian ridges when you want space after the Tatra honeypots.

Season and pairing
