This is the rift and the highland road south: Dead Sea floating, Wadi Mujib canyoning, and canyon walking toward Dana. The King's Highway is the scenic line, not a motorway. You'll drop a lot of altitude to the water, then climb again. Heat at the Dead Sea is a different climate from Madaba. Balqa holds the northern shore. Madaba is Mujib. Karak is the castle highlands toward Dana.

Wadi Mujib's Siq is the adventure people mean: water, scrambling, and closures when the gorge is unsafe. Operators cancel. That's the correct outcome. Dead Sea swimming is the recovery, not the sport. Canyoning and canyon hiking are the reason to linger on this road rather than blasting the Desert Highway.
Water levels and heat
Spring can close Mujib because there's too much water. Summer can make the rift brutal by 10am. Autumn is a working window. Don't book the Siq and a long Karak canyon on the same afternoon.
