Make the most of a full day on the water with structured, instructor-led sailing designed for young sailors who want to improve technique and enjoy more time afloat. The sessions build on previous experience, providing hands-on guidance in a supportive environment where skill development and confidence go hand in hand. Rigging, sailing and on-water feedback are all integrated to maximise practical learning.
The day begins with rigging your boat and a briefing to review key sailing concepts. Instructors provide hands-on guidance for those who need support, ensuring everyone starts the day confident and ready to head onto the water. Early sailing sessions focus on refining control, improving balance, and consolidating skills from previous training.
Midday sessions allow you to spend extended time on the water, practising more advanced manoeuvres or sailing set courses. Feedback is given throughout, tailored to your ability, helping to identify small adjustments that can make a big difference to technique and confidence. Breaks are spaced to allow rest, hydration, and time to review skills before returning to the water.
Later in the day, sailing challenges become slightly more structured, giving a chance to link skills together and apply knowledge in a practical way. Instructors encourage independent decision-making while remaining close for safety and guidance. By the end of the day, you will have accumulated substantial time afloat, building both competence and confidence.
Sessions are held on a large inland reservoir near Forest Row in East Sussex, offering calm, sheltered water ideal for youth sailing development. Clearly marked zones and organised launch points ensure that learning can progress safely and efficiently.
The surrounding area provides a peaceful, natural environment that encourages focus while still giving space to enjoy the outdoors. Parents can watch from designated areas without interfering, while sailing areas remain safe and structured.
You should have completed Youth Sailing Stage 1 or possess equivalent basic skills. Being comfortable on the water, handling a boat, and following safety guidance is important to get the most out of the day.
Wear clothing suitable for getting wet, with secure footwear that can be worn on the boat. Arrive ready to rig and start promptly to make the most of the session.
The club is designed to provide extended on-water time in a safe and structured environment. Instructors are experienced in teaching young sailors at a range of abilities, adapting coaching to ensure you get the most from each session.
Attention is given not only to sailing skills, but also to building independence, decision-making, and confidence afloat. The combination of small group sizes, supportive coaching, and well-managed water areas creates an environment where young sailors can develop steadily while enjoying their time on the water. This approach allows children to consolidate skills learned in courses and continue progressing in a way that feels natural and enjoyable.
The session is designed for young sailors aged 8 to 16 who have completed Stage 1 or have equivalent experience. This ensures everyone has the basic skills required to take part safely and confidently.
Your child should be comfortable handling their boat for extended periods and able to follow safety instructions from instructors both on shore and on the water.
Instructors assess ability at the start of the session and provide guidance appropriate to each sailor. Those needing extra support with rigging or manoeuvres receive hands-on help, while more experienced sailors are given challenges to extend their skills.
Throughout the day, feedback is given on technique, control, and decision-making, helping sailors refine skills at a pace that suits them individually.
Time on the water is substantial but interspersed with short breaks for rest, hydration, and reflection on skills. This balance ensures energy levels remain high and learning is effective.
Breaks also allow instructors to provide demonstrations, answer questions, and review sailing principles before heading back out.
Your child will work on steering accuracy, sail trim, and boat handling. They will also practise linking manoeuvres together and applying awareness of wind and course to their sailing decisions.
Rigging and preparation skills are reinforced, helping young sailors become more independent and confident before they even leave the shore.
Yes, instructors remain close on the water at all times and safety briefings are conducted before sailing begins. All boats and equipment are checked and maintained to high standards to ensure secure conditions.

Yes, shore-based areas provide a safe vantage point for parents to watch all sailing activity. This allows involvement without disrupting sessions.
Clear boundaries ensure that watching does not interfere with instruction or water safety.
Clothing suitable for getting wet, closed footwear, a towel, and a change of clothes are recommended. Layered clothing or sun protection may be needed depending on weather conditions.
Bringing these items ensures comfort and readiness for a full day on the water.
A minimum of three is required for the session to run. If numbers are not met, you will be contacted in advance to reschedule or discuss alternative dates.
This policy ensures both safety and an effective environment where coaching can be delivered efficiently.
