Spend a couple of hours on Bulgaria’s largest reservoir, exploring its calm waters and scenic shores by kayak. This guided tour is suitable for beginners and more experienced paddlers alike, providing an active escape from the city while enjoying nature, fresh air, and tranquil views.
The tour begins with a professional briefing where participants learn the basics of kayaking, including paddling techniques, water behaviour, and safety procedures. Guides demonstrate how to handle double kayaks, use paddles efficiently, and make the most of your time on the water.
Once on the reservoir, participants navigate along the scenic banks, observing the surrounding forested hills and water views. There are opportunities to pause, take photos, and enjoy the sounds of nature. The route is flexible, allowing the guide to adapt to participant energy levels, weather conditions, and interest points.
During the paddle, riders may notice birdlife, small inlets, and open water areas, which add to the sense of being immersed in nature. The experience combines light physical exercise with moments of reflection and observation, making it both energising and relaxing.
Iskar Reservoir is just outside Sofia, providing easy access for city dwellers while feeling far from urban bustle. Its calm waters are perfect for safe and enjoyable kayaking trips, even for first-timers.
The surrounding landscape features rolling hills, tree-lined shores, and occasional rocky outcrops. The reservoir itself spans 30 km², providing ample space for exploration while offering changing views as the group paddles along different parts of the shoreline.
Participants should be comfortable in a small watercraft and able to follow safety instructions from the guide.
No prior kayaking experience is needed, but clothing suitable for water and sun protection is recommended. Gloves, layered clothing, and a hat can improve comfort during the trip.
This guided kayaking tour highlights both the natural beauty of Iskar Reservoir and the accessibility of Bulgaria’s outdoor recreation. Experienced instructors prioritise safety while giving participants the freedom to explore at their own pace.
