Tag archery, also known as combat archery, is an action-packed, team-based sport combining elements of archery, dodgeball, and paintball. Players use specially designed foam-tipped arrows and bows to tag opponents while navigating a marked arena or obstacle course. This fast-paced activity is ideal for groups seeking a mix of strategy, skill, and friendly competition.
Sessions begin with a full safety briefing and equipment demonstration. Participants get hands-on practice with bows and foam-tipped arrows, ensuring everyone is confident before the games begin.
Once warmed up, the group is divided into teams to compete in multiple rounds across the arena or designated playing area. Different game scenarios and challenges are introduced to keep the session varied and engaging. The instructor provides tips on strategy, accuracy, and movement to improve performance throughout the session.
Tag archery can be delivered almost anywhere in the UK, including school fields, sports halls, and open outdoor spaces. Outdoor areas need to be flat and at least one-third the size of a football pitch to accommodate safe play. The mobile setup allows sessions to be arranged close to your location, reducing travel time and maximising playing time.
Indoor halls and gyms can also be used if weather conditions are unsuitable for outdoor play. The instructor team will work with the venue to ensure there is enough space for full gameplay, including obstacles or barriers for cover. Sessions are designed to be adaptable to both small and large groups while maintaining safety and enjoyment.
Participants should be at least 8 years old and able to move comfortably in sportswear or P.E. kit. A reasonable level of fitness is required to run, dodge, and move around the arena during gameplay, but no prior archery experience is needed.
All necessary equipment, including bows, arrows, and protective gear, is supplied. Participants simply need to bring appropriate clothing and footwear, and a willingness to take part in a fun, competitive team activity. The sessions are structured so that beginners and experienced players can enjoy the activity equally.
Sessions are led by experienced instructors with extensive backgrounds in both archery and team-based outdoor activities. Our instructors, including Dan and his team, focus on safety, learning, and fun, ensuring each participant gains confidence while fully enjoying the game.
High-quality equipment is supplied, and our instructors provide guidance on both strategy and technique. Their professional approach ensures that participants are engaged, motivated, and supported throughout the session. The flexible, mobile format means sessions can be tailored to your group size, venue, and preferences, making it suitable for schools, stag or hen parties, corporate events, or private groups.
Tag archery sessions can accommodate up to 24 players simultaneously, depending on the available space. Multiple rounds and rotating teams allow larger groups to remain active and involved, ensuring everyone has plenty of gameplay time. The instructor can adapt team sizes and scenarios to match the number of participants, providing a balanced and fair experience for all players.
Games are designed to keep all participants engaged throughout the session. Even with larger groups, everyone receives instruction and supervision to ensure safety while maintaining a fast-paced, competitive environment.
Tag archery is fully mobile and can be delivered in schools, sports halls, leisure centres, or outdoor fields. Outdoor areas should be flat, open, and ideally at least one-third the size of a football pitch, allowing sufficient room for safe movement and gameplay.
If weather conditions are unsuitable for outdoor play, sessions can be moved indoors to a suitable sports hall or gymnasium. Our team works with each venue to ensure the space is correctly set up with obstacles, cover, and clear playing areas, guaranteeing the activity is engaging and safe in any environment.
Tag archery is designed to be flexible and can easily be moved indoors. If an indoor space is available, sessions continue as normal without compromising gameplay or safety.
When indoor options are unavailable, outdoor sessions may need to be paused or rescheduled in extreme weather conditions such as high winds or thunderstorms. The instructor team will make real-time decisions to ensure the safety of all participants while keeping disruption to a minimum.
Each session starts with a briefing and equipment familiarisation. Participants learn how to handle bows safely and practise aiming with foam-tipped arrows under instructor supervision.
Following the warm-up, teams compete in a series of rounds featuring different game scenarios and challenges. Instructors provide tips on accuracy, movement, and strategy to help players improve throughout the session. The varied formats keep all participants engaged and provide a fast-paced, energetic experience.
No, arrows are fully padded with foam to ensure hits are safe. All participants wear protective face masks and arm guards, which means impacts are minor and do not cause injury.
The activity is designed to be fun and competitive without risk of serious harm. The protective equipment and padded arrows allow players to focus on strategy and teamwork rather than worrying about discomfort.
Yes, all sessions are designed for beginners and include clear instruction from qualified archery instructors. Participants are taught the basics of archery, rules of the game, and strategies for team play, allowing everyone to take part confidently.
Beginners receive one-on-one support as needed, and the session structure ensures that both newcomers and more experienced participants can enjoy the activity equally. This makes it ideal for mixed-ability groups such as schools, corporate teams, or parties.
Yes, the activity is designed with safety as a top priority. Foam-tipped arrows and protective gear allow participants to play competitively without risk of serious injury. Instructors supervise all gameplay to enforce rules, ensure fair play, and prevent accidents.
Safety briefings and continuous supervision mean that even first-time participants can enjoy the session with confidence. The combination of foam equipment, structured games, and professional instructors makes tag archery a safe and enjoyable experience for all ages.
Dan, the guide was great
We had a fantastic time with Ian. Excellent guidance alongside time to have fun and play about. We had a private group of 8 and everyone remarked on what fun they had had. Would thoroughly recommend and keen to go again!
Dan is a great instructor and we all (adults and teenagers) had a fantastic time. I would thoroughly recommend this scramble for beginners, but there were also more difficult options.
The Ghyll scramble was well led by Dan both from a safety and enjoyment view point. The only down side was there was nowhere private to get changed into and out of our swim gear. Due to embarrassment my 12 year old ended up walking 2 miles in wet gear…
An amazing experience which challenged us all including adults and children. We had a great laugh with our instructor Dan and even on the challenging bits he made us have the belief to give it a go. We all loved it.
Our instructor had all the correct gear all in good working order. We felt safe whilst also having fun. It was a great experience. I would highly recommend..
Thank you for an amazing afternoon paddle boarding on Lake Coniston. Monty did a great job organising all of the kit and explaining what we needed to know. He managed to get two complete novices up on the board and out on the Lake in no time. My daughter Evie…
An excellent experience.. The instructor Dan was brilliant . Very friendly and easy to get along with . Such a beautiful place to paddle board . Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to give it a go . Will be back !! Excellent 👌
