Returning to diving after a short break can feel challenging. This pool-based session helps certified divers refresh essential scuba skills, improve confidence, and regain comfort underwater. It’s an ideal opportunity to practise techniques and prepare for open water dives.
A briefing introduces participants to the exercises they will undertake, reviewing essential safety procedures and equipment familiarisation. Instructors ensure all gear is fitted correctly and review core techniques on the poolside.
Once in the water, divers practise breathing, mask clearing, and buoyancy control. Exercises are designed to rebuild confidence and correct any technique issues that may have developed during time away from diving.
Scenario-based drills simulate potential challenges encountered in open water, such as minor equipment problems or positioning tasks. Instructors provide individual guidance, correcting technique and offering tips to reinforce skills effectively.
Sessions are held in a heated indoor pool at Elsdon Avenue, Seaton Delaval, Whitley Bay. The controlled environment allows divers to focus on technique and safety without distractions from currents or weather.
The venue is easily accessible for participants from the surrounding North East region. Experienced instructors maintain a structured and supportive environment, ensuring personal attention and clear progression for every participant.
Participants must hold a valid scuba certification and should have been away from diving for at least three months. This ensures the refresher session can focus on restoring and strengthening skills rather than teaching new ones.
Instructors adjust the pace of the session to suit individual experience and confidence. Exercises are structured to rebuild familiarity with equipment and underwater procedures, making the return to open water safer and more enjoyable.
Personalised instruction in small groups allows participants to receive focused guidance and maximise skill retention. Experienced instructors help divers restore confidence, refine techniques, and feel fully prepared for future dives.
The pool environment combined with scenario-based exercises offers a safe, supportive setting to rebuild skills. Structured practice and professional supervision ensure divers leave fully competent and comfortable in the water.
Certified divers who have had a break of three months or longer will benefit most. The session is designed to refresh skills and restore confidence before returning to open water diving.
Instructors assess each participant’s current skill level and tailor exercises to address gaps or concerns. This ensures all participants leave with improved technique and comfort underwater.
Regulator breathing, mask clearing, buoyancy control, and underwater navigation are the primary focus. Scenario-based exercises reinforce these skills in realistic, controlled situations.
Participants also practise emergency recovery and positioning tasks, giving them practical experience in handling minor problems. This approach helps divers feel more competent and confident before returning to open water.
The session begins with a briefing and equipment checks, followed by poolside demonstrations. Divers then enter the pool to practise each skill with instructor guidance.
Exercises progress from basic techniques to more complex scenarios, allowing divers to gradually rebuild confidence. Instructors provide feedback at every stage, helping participants refine their skills effectively.
Yes, participants aged 10 and over can take part, provided they hold a valid certification. Instructors adjust exercises to suit age and confidence levels.
Parental consent is required for minors. Guidance ensures younger divers can participate safely and gain the full benefit of the session.
All necessary scuba gear, including mask, fins, buoyancy device, and regulator, is provided and fitted by instructors.
Participants should bring swimwear. Equipment is checked and adjusted to ensure comfort and safety, allowing divers to focus entirely on refreshing their skills.
