See a different side of Sofia while cycling through wide boulevards, green parks and historic streets on this private bike tour of the Bulgarian capital. With guided and self-guided options available, the experience combines sightseeing, local stories and relaxed cycling into one fun city adventure.
Meeting near Aleksander Nevski Square, the experience begins in the heart of Sofia before heading out across some of the city’s best-known landmarks and quieter local areas. Riding through the centre by bike allows participants to cover far more ground than a walking tour while still enjoying the atmosphere of the streets, historic buildings and lively parks along the way.
Those choosing the guided option explore the city alongside a local guide who shares stories, recommendations and background about Sofia’s history and culture while leading the route through key locations and scenic cycling areas. Self-guided participants receive an electronic guide packed with route details and information about the sights, allowing them to explore independently at their own pace.
The route combines easier city cycling with plenty of stops for photos and sightseeing, making the experience suitable for families, casual riders and visitors wanting a more active way to discover the capital. Sofia’s parks and wider streets help create a relaxed riding atmosphere even for those with limited city cycling experience.
Sofia is one of Europe’s oldest capitals, combining Roman history, grand Orthodox churches, Soviet-era architecture and modern city life all within a relatively compact centre. The city’s wide streets and large green spaces make it surprisingly enjoyable to explore by bike.
During the ride, participants pass through lively public squares, quieter backstreets and some of Sofia’s best-known parks while enjoying views towards nearby Vitosha Mountain. The mix of urban landmarks and open green areas gives the city a very different feel compared to many larger European capitals.
Participants should feel comfortable riding a bicycle in an urban environment, although the route is designed to remain relaxed and accessible for riders of most abilities. The overall pace is easy, with regular stops included throughout the experience.
Comfortable clothing and suitable footwear are recommended for the ride. Guests should also bring water, sunglasses and weather-appropriate layers depending on the season.
Exploring Sofia by bike creates a more interactive and enjoyable experience than simply walking between landmarks or joining a bus tour. Carefully planned routes combine famous sights with local parks and quieter streets, helping participants experience more of the city in a shorter amount of time.
Flexible guided and self-guided options allow visitors to choose the style of experience that suits them best. Quality bikes, local knowledge and organised route planning help keep the tour smooth, relaxed and fun from start to finish.

Sofia’s city centre is relatively compact and includes several large parks, open spaces and wider roads that work well for relaxed cycling tours. Compared to many larger capitals, the city feels calmer and easier to navigate by bike.
