Leave the city behind and spend two unforgettable days exploring the Rila Mountains on horseback. Combining scenic mountain trails, fresh mountain air and incredible views, this private riding adventure is designed for those who want to experience Bulgaria’s largest mountain range at a relaxed and enjoyable pace.
Rather than following a rigid schedule, the trip allows you to ride at a pace that suits you while your guide leads the way through forests, open mountain meadows and scenic ridgelines. With accommodation, meals, transfers and equipment already arranged, everything is taken care of so you can simply enjoy the experience.
Horse riding is one of the most rewarding ways to experience the Rila Mountains, allowing you to cover far more ground than on foot while still enjoying a genuine connection with the landscape. The carefully chosen routes balance comfortable riding with fantastic scenery, creating an adventure that feels both active and relaxing.
Private guiding means the experience revolves around you rather than a large group. Whether you prefer a steady ride through the countryside or enjoy opportunities for faster sections along suitable trails, your guide can adapt the pace to suit your riding style and confidence.
After meeting your guide and travelling towards the mountains, you'll be introduced to your horse and equipment before setting off on the first stage of the adventure. The route follows scenic mountain trails through forests, meadows and open countryside, with the Rila Mountains providing a spectacular backdrop throughout the day.
Gentle ascents and descents make the riding enjoyable while still allowing plenty of opportunities to appreciate the scenery. Along the way, you'll pass through areas known for their clean mountain air, peaceful surroundings and impressive views across the valleys below.
As evening approaches, you'll arrive at your overnight accommodation where dinner is included. The relaxed mountain atmosphere provides the perfect opportunity to unwind and reflect on the day's ride.
Following breakfast, the second day continues through more of the Rila Mountains' beautiful landscapes. Depending on conditions and your preferred pace, the route may include wider mountain roads ideal for trotting and longer sections of scenic countryside riding.
The day focuses on enjoying the freedom that horse riding brings, allowing you to reach remote viewpoints and quieter corners of the mountains that many visitors never see. After completing the ride, you'll return with your guide before travelling back towards Sofia.
One overnight stay is included as part of the experience, allowing you to fully enjoy two days in the mountains without needing to return to the city. The accommodation provides a comfortable place to relax after a full day in the saddle.
Dinner on the first evening and breakfast on the second morning are included, helping create a stress-free experience where the focus remains on riding and enjoying the mountain environment.
This experience is best suited to riders who already have some confidence on horseback and are comfortable spending several hours riding across varied terrain. The routes include opportunities for trotting and faster-paced riding on suitable sections.
Your guide will ensure the pace remains appropriate for your experience level throughout the trip.
The Rila Mountains offer a fantastic mixture of forest trails, mountain roads, open meadows and scenic ridgelines. The terrain is particularly well suited to horse riding thanks to its combination of gentle gradients and wider paths.
This variety helps keep both days interesting while showcasing different parts of the mountain landscape.
Yes, one night's accommodation is included as part of the tour. Staying overnight in the mountains allows you to enjoy a much more immersive experience compared to a single-day ride.
Dinner and breakfast are also included with the accommodation, making the trip easy to enjoy without additional planning.
Dinner is included on the first evening and breakfast is provided the following morning. Additional meals, snacks and drinks outside of those specified are not included.
Many riders choose to bring snacks for the daytime sections of the ride.
The exact distance and pace vary depending on the route, weather and your riding preferences. The experience is designed to be flexible, allowing the guide to adapt the day to suit the group rather than following a strict schedule.
This creates a more enjoyable and personalised riding experience overall.
Comfortable riding clothes and suitable footwear are highly recommended. Long trousers help improve comfort in the saddle, while outdoor layers allow you to adapt to changing mountain temperatures.
Even during summer, mornings and evenings in the mountains can feel noticeably cooler.
The Rila Mountains offer a combination of varied terrain, scenic landscapes and extensive trail networks that make them ideal for horseback adventures. Wide mountain roads, forest tracks and open countryside provide excellent riding conditions throughout much of the year.
Combined with the fresh mountain air and impressive views, the area delivers one of Bulgaria's most rewarding multi-day riding experiences.
