The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world's most recognised scuba diving certification and the starting point for independent diving adventures. Over two to three days, you'll develop the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to dive safely with a buddy anywhere in the world.
Learning begins before you even arrive in Tenerife. Through PADI eLearning, you'll complete the theory section at your own pace, covering diving equipment, underwater physics, safety procedures and the skills needed to become a certified diver. Completing this in advance allows more time to focus on practical training during the course.
Once at the dive centre, you'll move into the in-water training phase. Guided by a professional instructor, you'll practise essential scuba skills in shallow water, learning how to use your equipment confidently and how to respond to common situations that can arise underwater. The exercises are completed gradually, allowing you to build confidence step by step.
After mastering the required skills, you'll head into the Atlantic Ocean for four training dives. The first dives take place at shallower depths, allowing you to apply what you've learned in a real diving environment while becoming comfortable underwater. The later dives progress deeper and continue developing your skills while exploring Tenerife's volcanic underwater landscapes and marine life.
Successful completion of the course earns you the internationally recognised PADI Open Water Diver certification. Divers aged 15 and above can dive independently with a certified buddy to a maximum depth of 18 metres. Divers aged 10 to 14 receive a Junior Open Water Diver certification and can dive to 12 metres until they reach the qualifying age.
Training takes place in the South of Tenerife, a region known for its excellent diving conditions and year-round access to a variety of dive sites. Clear water, volcanic reefs and abundant marine life provide an ideal setting for learning.
Ocean dives are selected according to conditions and student progress, helping ensure comfortable and enjoyable training throughout the course. The area's underwater landscapes offer a fantastic environment for developing diving skills while experiencing the marine life of the Canary Islands.
No previous scuba diving experience is required to join the course. It is specifically designed for beginners who want to gain a full diving certification.
Participants should be comfortable in the water and in generally good health. Some medical conditions may require approval from a doctor before diving.
Teaching diving in Tenerife since 2013, the team has helped countless students earn their first diving certification. Their instructors focus on building confidence through clear instruction, practical experience and a supportive learning environment.
By combining internationally recognised PADI training with some of Tenerife's most enjoyable dive sites, the course offers both a valuable qualification and an unforgettable introduction to scuba diving.
Upon successful completion, you'll receive the internationally recognised PADI Open Water Diver certification. This is the most popular beginner scuba certification in the world and is accepted by dive centres globally.
The certification allows qualified divers aged 15 and above to dive with a certified buddy to a maximum depth of 18 metres without requiring direct professional supervision.
No previous diving experience is necessary. The course is specifically designed for complete beginners and takes you through every stage of learning from the very beginning.
Many students arrive having never worn scuba equipment before, and the training programme is structured to build confidence gradually.
The theory portion of the course is completed through PADI's online learning platform. This allows you to study from home before arriving in Tenerife.
Working through the materials in advance means more of your time on holiday can be spent practising and diving rather than sitting in a classroom.
The programme includes four ocean dives following the completion of your practical training exercises.
These dives allow you to apply your new skills in real conditions while gradually increasing your confidence and experience underwater.
Training dives begin at shallower depths and gradually progress as your skills develop.
The final dives can reach depths of up to 18 metres for qualifying students, following PADI training standards and instructor guidance.
Yes. Children can begin the Open Water Diver course from the age of 10.
Divers aged between 10 and 14 receive a Junior Open Water Diver certification, which includes a depth restriction until they reach the qualifying age.
Tenerife's waters are home to rays, turtles, octopus, moray eels, schools of fish and many other marine species.
The exact wildlife varies from dive to dive, which makes every training session slightly different and adds to the experience of learning in the ocean.
All standard scuba diving equipment required for the course is included.
Additional extras such as dive computers can also be arranged if required for your training.
