Take on the 'Everest' of Sailing and prepare to be part of something amazing.
One of the last great exploration voyages on Earth: fewer than 200 vessels have ever completed the Northwest Passage. In 2028, Wavysail is offering just six berths on this legendary 45-day crossing, sailing from Nuuk, Greenland to Nome, Alaska aboard S/Y Quest, in partnership with Swedish polar specialists Ocean Expeditions.
Key Details
What to Expect
Live and work as active crew alongside a highly experienced polar sailing team, standing watches, navigating ice and threading narrow Arctic channels once attempted only by history's great explorers. Days bring shifting pack ice, remote Inuit settlements, and wildlife rarely seen from land. This voyage is also being documented by filmmaker Alex Stone, so you may find yourself part of the story too.
Why Sail With Wavysail
Wavysail specialises in small-group offshore expeditions of no more than six guests, led by world-class named skippers. Rated 4.9/5 by past guests and named Adventure Sailing Operator of 2025, we bring the same hands-on, expedition-crew ethos to the Arctic that has shaped our voyages from Scotland to St Helena. This trip is run in partnership with Ocean Expeditions.
Prerequisites
Previous ocean sailing experience is strongly recommended given the remoteness and duration of this passage. Full training and safety briefings are provided before departure. Not suitable for those with limited mobility, given the demands of high-latitude offshore sailing.
This expedition ranks among the most demanding global challenges. We conduct an interview to understand you better and discuss any questions or concerns you might have. We're looking for individuals with:

The Northwest Passage is the ultimate adventure, but it comes with no guarantees. While we plan meticulously, unexpected conditions like ice and weather can impact the journey. Our top priority is the safety of the crew and the vessel, so we won’t hesitate to return to a safe haven if conditions become risky. This isn’t the place to take unnecessary risks.
Amazing Experience! The Wavysail trip from Cape Town to St Helena was an amazing experience. Sailing day and night for 2,000 nautical miles was challenging but great fun. Wavy, the skipper was so experienced and I learned a lot about helming and general seamanship. And we all had a lot…
