Night Blackout Bungee Jump – Freefall into Complete Darkness

Yes, there are optional media packages available to capture your experience. You can choose a photo-only package, a video-only package, or a combined photo and video bundle. Each is priced per person and recorded by staff using mounted cameras positioned at key points along the session—whether that's the bungee platform, zip line run, or landing zones.

The photo package includes a selection of high-quality action shots taken at the most exciting moments. The video option features edited clips that capture your reactions and the activity from start to finish. If you’d like both, the combined package offers the best value and can be purchased upon completion of the activity.

Unlike a traditional bungee jump done in daylight, the blackout bungee takes place in total darkness. There are no floodlights, no illuminated gorge below—just complete blackness when you step off the platform. The lack of visibility removes your sense of distance and timing, so you can’t predict when the rope will catch you. This makes the experience feel longer, more intense, and much more disorientating in the best way possible.

The result is a heightened sense of adrenaline. Without visual reference points, your body reacts entirely to the sensation of falling. It’s a unique psychological challenge as much as a physical one and offers a new level of intensity for even experienced bungee jumpers. No two jumps feel the same when you can’t see what’s coming.

Yes, blackout bungee jumps are held to the same high safety standards as daytime jumps. The equipment used is identical—full-body harnesses, purpose-built platforms, and professional-grade bungee cords. All gear is regularly inspected, and the site is operated by experienced jump masters who guide you through every step.

During night-time sessions, additional safety measures are in place. The walkways to and from the platform are torch-lit, the platform area is briefly lit for equipment checks, and the blackout effect only begins once you're in place. Once your harness is secure and your jump master is satisfied, the lights are switched off for the jump itself.

You’ll arrive at the Killiecrankie Visitor Centre, check in, and go through a safety briefing with the team. Once weighed and fitted with your harness, you’ll follow a short trail through the trees to reach the Garry Bridge platform. As it gets darker, the setting becomes more atmospheric and quiet—ideal for building anticipation.

Once at the platform, you’ll be clipped into the system and double-checked by the jump master. Then the lights go out. It’s silent. You’ll get a countdown, then you step—or leap—into the unknown. After your fall and bounce, the winch will return you to the platform. From start to finish, expect to be onsite for around 1 to 1.5 hours.

It’s completely dark during the actual jump. The team uses torches to guide you to the platform and complete the initial setup, but once you’re in position, they switch off all lighting. No floodlights, no ambient path lighting—just full blackout. This means you won’t see the river, the cord, the trees, or even your own hands.

The darkness adds a psychological twist. Without any visual feedback, your brain can’t prepare for what’s coming, which makes the moment the cord tightens far more intense. It’s what makes this jump so unique—and why it’s only offered by this centre.

Not at all. The blackout bungee is suitable for both first-time jumpers and experienced bungee fans. The safety briefing will walk you through everything, from harness setup to what to expect during the jump. The team is great at building confidence, especially for those nervous about jumping in the dark.

If you’re new to bungee, this might feel like throwing yourself into the deep end, but many people find the blackout element removes the fear of looking down. With no visible drop, it becomes more about trust and instinct than overthinking.

Dress for the outdoors and the weather. Trainers are ideal—avoid sandals or anything with loose straps. Comfortable clothing that doesn’t restrict movement is best, like leggings, joggers, or gym wear. Jackets, hoodies, or layers are recommended in colder months, especially as you’ll be standing still for parts of the session.

Avoid loose items like scarves, jewellery, and dangling accessories. The team will ask you to remove these before you gear up. It’s also wise to bring a torch, especially if you're a spectator or walking to the jump area after dark.

Yes, spectators are welcome and encouraged—but they’ll need to be prepared. As this is a night event, it can get chilly and is very dark around the bridge. There are no permanent lights on the trail or viewing areas, so bringing a torch is essential.

While they won’t be able to see much of the actual jump due to the darkness, being there adds to the energy and makes for a memorable shared outing. If they’ve never witnessed a blackout bungee before, the reactions and atmosphere still make it well worth attending.
