Dirt tracks and village roads north of Kathmandu make this a mountain-bike day, not a city spin. A private cycling guide meets you near Thamel with a bike and helmet, then you ride toward Balaju, Mudkhu Bhanjyang, and Tokha. Lunch sits in a hill restaurant before the transfer home.
Bikes are sized at a hotel near Thamel before you roll toward Balaju. After a short brief you'll climb toward Mudkhu Bhanjyang, then on through Tinpiple, Dharmasthali, Kavresthali, and Tokha.
The riding is mid-hill trail and village road, about four to five hours in the saddle on a day of around six hours. Your guide sets a pace the group can hold, and mechanics service the bikes before you leave. Tell the guide if a brake feels loose.
Lunch is at a local restaurant looking toward the snow line when the sky is clear. After you eat you'll drop back toward the valley and transfer to your hotel.
Valley lanes climb out of Thamel onto the north rim: Balaju, Mudkhu Bhanjyang, Tinpiple, Dharmasthali, Kavresthali, and Tokha. You do not need to find a trailhead on your own.
From the ridges you look back at the city bowl and, on a clear day, the high snow line. The lunch stop is chosen for that view, and you'll finish at the same hotel you started from.
You do not need race experience. You should be happy on a mountain bike for four to five hours on dirt and village roads, and used to standing on the pedals for short climbs.
The minimum age is 13. Wear closed shoes. Tell us if you have not ridden for a long time so the first hour can stay easy.
Wheels roll from Lazimpat, a Kathmandu neighbourhood our English-speaking guides have used as a base for two decades. Hotel pickup is the default: we collect you, stay with you, and bring you back.
The same office that answers the phone in the morning also holds the hotel name and the return plan. You'll see one team from the lobby to the last drop-off, not a chain of separate contractors.

We'll take you into the Himalaya from our base in Lazimpat, Kathmandu, with guides who have been running treks, day hikes, and mountain flights from this valley for more than two decades. You'll find short walks on the rim of the city, multi-day lodge treks toward Annapurna and Everest, and days on the water or in the air around Pokhara.
