🌊 What to Expect

After departing San Jose in a private vehicle, the route travels through farmland and rainforest landscapes towards Lake Arenal. On arrival, your guide provides instruction and safety guidance before you enter the water. Paddle boarding takes place over approximately two and a half hours, with time to explore calm sections of the lake and take in open views of the surrounding volcano and forested hillsides.

Once the water section finishes, travel continues to the hot springs where lunch is served on arrival. Following the meal, the afternoon is left open for you to rotate between thermal pools of different temperatures. The setting allows for a relaxed pace before the return drive to San Jose later in the day.

📍 Location

Set within Costa Rica’s largest lake system, Lake Arenal sits in a volcanic region shaped by geothermal activity and surrounding rainforest. Open water meets forested slopes and rural land, creating a varied natural backdrop for water-based activities.

Nearby, the hot springs are formed by naturally heated geothermal water flowing from the Arenal Volcano. These pools are arranged within landscaped tropical gardens that provide space for both quiet areas and social spaces close to the base of the volcano.

⚠️ Prerequisites

No previous paddle boarding experience is required as full guidance is given before entering the lake. Instruction covers balance, paddling technique and water safety.

A reasonable level of fitness is helpful due to the balance and movement required on the board for an extended period. Comfort in and out of the water from the lakeshore is also needed.

🌱 Why Choose Us

Private itineraries are structured to allow each part of the day to run at a comfortable pace, avoiding large group scheduling or rushed transitions. This creates more space to enjoy both activity and relaxation.

Experienced guides support the entire journey, from paddle instruction on the lake through to coordination at the hot springs. The combination of volcanic waters and geothermal pools delivers two contrasting but complementary environments in one day.
