Dive into Shetland’s crystal-clear waters on a guided freedive exploration. Experience hidden underwater spots, improve your breathhold and diving confidence, and enjoy a close connection with nature. This session is perfect for anyone wanting to explore unique marine environments while building skills and making lasting memories.
A short briefing introduces safety practices, equipment use, and techniques for efficient underwater movement. Instructors demonstrate proper finning, body positioning, and relaxation strategies to help you feel comfortable and confident in the water.
Guided exploration takes you to a selection of the instructor’s favourite hidden spots along the Shetland coastline. Sheltered bays, rocky coves, and shallow reefs reveal local marine life and underwater features that are often missed by visitors. Sessions are tailored to your experience, allowing gradual improvement of breathhold and freediving skills.
After the dive, participants have a chance to debrief, share highlights, and receive tips for future sessions. This reflection helps consolidate learning, enhances appreciation for the underwater world, and ensures you leave with memorable experiences.
Shetland’s coast offers sheltered coves, clear waters, and diverse underwater terrain ideal for freediving. Each dive site is selected to provide safe and accessible conditions while allowing exploration of unique marine environments.
Local knowledge ensures sessions are planned around tides and weather, giving participants access to spots that are rarely seen by tourists. This combination of safety and discovery creates a rewarding underwater experience.
Participants should be confident in swimming and in good health. No prior freediving experience is necessary, making this suitable for beginners.
Those with medical concerns should consult with the instructor or a doctor before booking to ensure safety during breathhold activities.
This centre was born from a personal journey of resilience and transformation. After a serious motorbike crash in 2006, the instructor faced a long recovery that tested both body and mind. Freediving became a tool for healing, building confidence, and reconnecting with life. These experiences shape every session, allowing participants to not only learn skills but also feel inspired and supported as they push their own boundaries.
Opening in Shetland over a decade ago, the centre combines years of experience, formal training in freediving, scuba, and emergency first response, and a deep love for the sea. Participants benefit from personalised guidance, access to hidden and pristine dive spots, and the chance to explore the underwater world with someone who truly understands how transformative freediving can be—both physically and mentally.
Participants must be at least 12 years old and comfortable in swimming. No prior freediving or snorkeling experience is required, so beginners are welcome.
Good general health is recommended to ensure safety during breathhold activities. Anyone with medical conditions should discuss them with the instructor before booking.
Sessions are approximately 2 hours, including a briefing, exploration in the water, and a debrief. Timing allows participants to experience multiple dive spots and practice techniques without rushing.
The schedule is flexible, and instructors may adjust the pace depending on conditions, group ability, and individual confidence levels to maximise enjoyment and safety.
All necessary freediving gear can be rented, including mask, snorkel, fins, wetsuit, and weight belt if required. High-quality, specialist equipment ensures safety and comfort in all water conditions.
Participants may bring personal gear if preferred. Instructors provide guidance on using it effectively and safely, helping you get the most out of your session.
Safety is a top priority. Instructors teach proper buddy techniques, water entry and exit methods, and breathing exercises to reduce risk during breathhold diving.
Sessions are held in controlled coastal spots selected for calm waters and minimal hazards. Participants are closely supervised, and group sizes remain small to allow personalised attention.
Shetland’s coastal waters are home to reefs, invertebrates, fish species, and unique underwater formations. Instructors highlight points of interest and share tips for observing marine life without disturbing it.
Each dive offers a combination of shallow and slightly deeper areas, giving opportunities to develop skills while enjoying the natural environment. Wildlife sightings can vary but the locations are chosen for maximum chances of observation.
Sessions focus on building confidence and technique gradually. Instructors teach finning, body positioning, breath control, and relaxation strategies to help you stay efficient underwater.
Even a short session can significantly improve your comfort and confidence in the water. Continued practice with these techniques allows participants to enjoy longer and deeper dives safely.
No prior freediving experience is necessary, and the activity is suitable for beginners. Basic swimming ability and general health are required to participate safely.
Those with medical issues affecting breathing, heart, or physical mobility should consult the instructor or a doctor before booking to ensure the session is safe for them.
