Explore Shetland’s underwater world with an exciting spearfishing and foraging adventure. Experience the thrill of collecting your own fresh seafood while learning breath-hold and freediving techniques. This session combines hands-on skill-building with a close connection to the marine environment.
A short introduction covers safety procedures, breath-hold techniques, and proper use of your fins, mask, and spear. Instructors demonstrate efficient movement underwater and strategies for approaching fish without disturbance.
Participants explore hidden reefs, sheltered coves, and rocky outcrops along the coast. Guides highlight edible species such as lobsters, brown crabs, scallops, razor clams, sea urchins, and nutritious seaweed, teaching sustainable foraging practices. Instruction is adapted to skill level, ensuring safety while providing a challenging and fun experience.
After returning to shore, participants review their catches and foraged items with guidance on preparation and sustainable handling. The session combines adventure with education, leaving a lasting appreciation of Shetland’s marine environment.
Shetland’s coastline offers clear waters, protected bays, and unique underwater terrain. Carefully chosen dive sites allow safe exploration while offering access to hidden spots seldom seen by visitors.
Knowledge of tides, currents, and local marine life ensures every session is rewarding. Participants get a hands-on experience of the local ecosystem while practising freediving, spearfishing, and sustainable foraging skills.
Swimming ability and general good health are required. Beginners are welcome, with all instruction personalised to skill and comfort levels.
Medical concerns should be discussed with the instructor or a doctor prior to booking to guarantee safety throughout the session.
Founded after a serious motorbike accident in 2006, the instructor discovered freediving as a tool for recovery, confidence, and personal growth. Years of experience in freediving, scuba, and emergency first response allow sessions to focus on safety, skill development, and enjoyment.
Small groups, personalised instruction, and hidden coastal locations provide a unique way to explore Shetland’s waters. Combining spearfishing, foraging, and freediving, participants gain practical skills, enjoy fresh seafood, and connect with the marine environment in a memorable and inspiring way.
