Building on foundational skills, this 2-day Adult RYA Level 2 course helps you sail more confidently and safely. You’ll refine rigging, launching, and capsize recovery techniques while practising sailing in all directions. Instructors provide personalised guidance in a dinghy such as a Wayfarer, helping you develop competence and confidence on the water.
You will begin with an overview of sailing fundamentals, refreshing key Level 1 techniques. Early exercises focus on rigging and launching your dinghy safely, with instructors providing step-by-step guidance.
On-water sessions emphasise manoeuvres such as tacking, gybing, and capsize recovery. You’ll practise ropework, sail handling, and decision-making in realistic conditions. By the end of the second day, you’ll have the competence and confidence to sail independently in calm to moderate waters.
Poole Harbour combines sheltered waters and tidal areas, giving you the chance to practise new skills safely while experiencing realistic sailing challenges. Calm zones are ideal for refining techniques, while tidal areas introduce controlled complexity.
The venue is fully equipped with dinghies, safety gear, and instructor support, providing a secure and professional learning environment. You can focus entirely on developing your sailing skills.
Sailing experience equivalent to RYA Level 1 is required. This ensures you can safely participate in intermediate manoeuvres and water-based exercises.
Participants should wear suitable clothing for wet conditions. Buoyancy aids are provided, and waterproof jackets and trousers are available. Closed-toe shoes are recommended for safety.
Over five decades of experience in watersports and outdoor education makes this centre a trusted environment for developing sailing skills. You’ll benefit from a location that balances safety and real-world sailing conditions for beginners and intermediates alike.
Instructors bring extensive practical knowledge, offering structured, hands-on guidance throughout the course. High-quality facilities and equipment ensure that every learner can progress confidently and enjoyably on the water.
With your RYA Level 2 certification, you'll have the skills and knowledge to sail confidently, make informed decisions, and handle a dinghy like a Wayfarer. This qualification allows you to embark on more challenging sailing adventures, participate in races, and even consider progressing to advanced RYA courses. It's a significant step toward becoming a skilled and independent sailor, opening up a world of exciting opportunities on the water.
This course is open to ages 16+ who are eager to build upon thier foundational sailing skills.

Absolutely! You can view and book our full range of courses at the bottom of this page.
Buoyancy aids and waterproofs are provided. You will, however, need plenty of old clothes – as sailing can be a damp sport! Bring shorts and tee shirts for warmer days and tracksuit bottoms and sweatshirts for colder days. A pair of old trainers or wetsuit shoes is also recommended. We can provide a more detailed kit list upon booking, too.
Our centre is fully equipped with first aid boxes located in the residential accommodation and sailing centre offices. All our main safety boats carry a first aid kit and a radio. All our instructors hold a valid First Aid certificate and attend a health and safety induction when joining the company.
We guarantee to give you the training and do our very best to help you pass the training and assessments. Most of the certificates depend on you demonstrating your competence, so we can’t give you a firm guarantee that you will pass. However, if the worst comes to the worst, you’ll leave us with an action plan to complete.
