Susi and the team were excellent. The facilities and location for our very first time on SUPs were great. We had a blast!

If you can’t decide between bow or blade, this three-hour woodland session lets you try both. Set in a sheltered outdoor range near Dunbar, you’ll learn safe technique, build accuracy and enjoy friendly competition across two very different target sports. Ideal for groups looking for something hands-on and memorable.
You’ll meet at the base before taking a short ten-minute walk into the woodland to reach the dedicated ranges. The session begins with a full safety briefing covering both activities, followed by a structured introduction to the first discipline. If starting with axe throwing, you’ll learn grip, stance and swing technique before practising on timber targets positioned just over three metres away. If beginning with archery, you’ll focus on posture, drawing the bow smoothly and releasing with control at set target distances.
After initial coaching, you’ll move into guided practice with individual feedback. The instructor remains on hand throughout, helping you refine small adjustments that quickly improve accuracy. The contrast between the two activities keeps the session engaging — one centred on rotation and timing, the other on alignment and steady aim.
The final part of the experience blends light-hearted competition across both ranges. Expect scoring rounds, team challenges and a relaxed atmosphere as everyone tests their skills. The session finishes with the Hammerschlagen challenge, adding an energetic and social end before returning to the meeting point.
The woodland ranges are located near Dunbar in East Lothian, around 40 minutes from Edinburgh by car. Set away from busy public spaces, the site provides a focused outdoor environment that feels private and purpose-built for target sports.
East Lothian offers a mix of coastline, farmland and rolling countryside, making it a popular destination for year-round outdoor activities. Clear directions from the A1087 lead to the meeting point, where parking is available before the short walk to the ranges.
No previous experience is necessary for either activity. Full instruction is provided from the ground up, and sessions are structured to allow beginners to progress steadily and safely.
Participants should be comfortable standing for extended periods and engaging in moderate upper body movement. Outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear are required due to uneven woodland terrain and changing weather conditions.
Sessions are delivered by experienced outdoor professionals with nationally recognised qualifications and a strong emphasis on safety, preparation and best practice. Small group sizes allow instructors to provide personalised coaching across both disciplines, ensuring a high-quality experience for every participant.
The organisation operates with a clear commitment to ethical adventure and environmental responsibility. By prioritising sustainable practices and reinvesting a portion of profits into environmental initiatives, it ensures that outdoor experiences contribute positively to the landscapes in which they take place.
As a responsible and ethical adventure company we are committed to the wild and natural environment we work in. We strive to put the planet first in everything we do.
We recognise that a love for our beautiful wild places demands active participation in the fight to save them. This is of course a dynamic process and we are always striving to minimise our impact in, educate our clients on and improve our contribution towards, our natural environment.
We align as partners with adventuro, who are a net-zero company from day-one, partnering with Rewilding Britain to protect our playground.
No prior experience is required. Both axe throwing and archery are introduced from the basics, with full safety briefings and step-by-step coaching.
The session is structured so beginners can build confidence quickly, while those with previous experience can refine technique and improve consistency.
Strength is less important than technique. The key is learning how to generate smooth rotation and controlled release rather than relying on force.
Most people find that with proper guidance they can achieve consistent results within a short time. The axes used are designed specifically for this activity and are manageable for beginners.
Time is split between axe throwing and archery, giving you meaningful practice in both rather than just a brief taster. Each activity includes instruction, guided practice and a competitive element.
The order may vary depending on the group and flow of the session, but both disciplines receive equal focus.
Yes, each range operates under clear safety procedures with defined throwing and shooting lines. Only one participant acts at a time within controlled zones.
The instructor supervises throughout, ensuring transitions between activities are managed smoothly and safely.
Yes, this combined format works particularly well for team building and away days. The mix of activities encourages communication, support and friendly rivalry.
Private bookings can often accommodate slightly larger groups than standard sessions, subject to availability.
The standard minimum age is 12, although younger participants may be accepted for private groups depending on suitability.
All participants must be able to follow safety instructions carefully and handle equipment responsibly.
Outdoor clothing suitable for the weather is essential, as the ranges are in woodland and sessions operate year round. Sturdy footwear with grip is recommended.
Avoid loose items that may interfere with movement. Layered clothing works well so you can adjust during the session.
