Experience Tuscany from a completely different perspective as you drift above rolling hills, vineyards and historic villages carried only by the wind. Every flight follows a unique route, making each journey across Val d'Orcia a memorable adventure.
Following the final weather check, you'll receive your exact meeting point, meeting time and Google Maps location, usually the afternoon or evening before your flight. After meeting your pilot and ground crew, you'll take part in a safety briefing before watching the balloon inflate. If you'd like to get involved, you're welcome to help prepare the balloon before climbing into the basket.
Once airborne, you'll spend around an hour drifting wherever the wind takes you across the landscapes surrounding Pienza, Montalcino and Val d'Orcia. Expect views of vineyards, valleys, castles, cypress-lined roads and traditional Tuscan villages, with no two flights ever following exactly the same route. After a gentle landing, you'll enjoy a picnic-style breakfast with local products, croissants and a glass of sparkling wine before returning to the original meeting point by shuttle.
A private upgrade is also available for those wanting a more exclusive experience. You'll enjoy the same flight, scenery, breakfast and return transfer, but with a basket reserved solely for your booking, making it an excellent choice for anniversaries, proposals, family celebrations or simply enjoying Tuscany with your own group.
Flights depart from the Buonconvento area in the heart of Val d'Orcia, with the exact launch site chosen according to the weather conditions on the day. Your confirmed meeting location is sent after the final weather assessment to ensure the safest possible flight.
Surrounded by famous destinations including Pienza and Montalcino, this part of Tuscany is known for its vineyards, rolling hills and centuries-old villages. Travelling by hot air balloon offers a completely different view of these landscapes, with every flight revealing something new.
No previous ballooning experience is required, making this activity suitable for both first-time flyers and returning visitors. Children are normally welcome from 4 years old when accompanied by an adult.
Wear comfortable outdoor clothing suitable for the season together with flat, closed-toe footwear. Requests for younger children are considered individually based on height, safety requirements and expected flight conditions.
With more than 30 years of commercial ballooning experience, flights are operated by an ENAC-certified hot air balloon operator committed to safety, reliability and high-quality customer experiences. Experienced pilots and professional ground crews ensure every stage of your journey is carefully managed.
Each flight is planned around the weather rather than following a fixed route, allowing the team to choose the safest launch location while making the most of Tuscany's changing landscapes. From your pre-flight briefing to the return transfer after landing, everything is organised to provide a smooth and enjoyable experience.
The standard experience takes place in a shared balloon basket, allowing you to enjoy the flight alongside other passengers while taking in the scenery together.
Choosing the private upgrade gives you an exclusive basket reserved only for your booking. The flight duration, breakfast, sparkling wine and return transfer remain the same, but you'll enjoy a much more personal experience that's ideal for special occasions.
The complete experience lasts approximately three hours, including meeting the crew, the safety briefing, balloon preparation, the flight, breakfast and the shuttle transfer back to the launch point.
The flight itself lasts around one hour, although this may vary slightly depending on wind conditions and the chosen landing location.
Flights operate around Buonconvento within the Val d'Orcia region, although the exact launch site depends on the weather conditions on the day.
You'll receive your confirmed meeting point, meeting time and Google Maps location after the final weather assessment, usually the afternoon or evening before departure.
Every flight is different because hot air balloons travel with the wind rather than following a fixed route. You may drift over vineyards, rolling hills, valleys, castles, cypress-lined roads and traditional villages throughout Val d'Orcia.
Flying above Pienza and Montalcino's surrounding countryside offers views that simply can't be experienced from the ground, with each journey revealing a slightly different landscape.
Yes. Most passengers are first-time balloon flyers, and your experienced pilot will explain everything before take-off so you'll know exactly what to expect.
The flight itself is calm and gentle, making it an enjoyable introduction to hot air ballooning without requiring any previous experience.
Safety is always the highest priority. Flights are operated by an ENAC-certified operator with over 30 years of experience and are flown by commercially qualified balloon pilots.
Weather conditions are carefully assessed before every flight, and if conditions aren't suitable, your experience will be postponed until it's safe to fly.
