Dry suit diving provides extra warmth and buoyancy for cold water environments, letting you stay underwater longer with more comfort. This course covers essential techniques and safety practices, combining pool training with open water application. By the end, you’ll be confident diving in dry suits at a variety of conditions.
The course begins in the heated indoor pool where you’ll practise dry suit entries, exits, and buoyancy control. Skills are broken down into manageable steps, allowing you to master them in a safe and controlled environment.
Open water dives at Capernwray, Ellerton, or Beadnell Bay allow you to apply these techniques in real conditions. You’ll learn to adjust buoyancy with the dry suit, maintain orientation underwater, and practice emergency procedures under instructor supervision.
Feedback and assessment are provided throughout to ensure you can dive confidently and safely in cold water, ready for UK or international dives requiring dry suit use.
The pool at Seaton Valley High School is a controlled, shallow environment perfect for learning entry, exit, and skill drills. The calm water helps you focus on buoyancy and trim without external distractions.
Open water locations vary: Capernwray quarry offers a sheltered environment with submerged features; Ellerton inland lake provides a moderate depth silty bottom lake; Beadnell Bay delivers a coastal shore dive experience with variable conditions. Practising across these sites ensures readiness for different dive environments.
Divers must be certified with previous open water experience and comfortable with standard scuba equipment. No prior dry suit experience is needed.
Familiarity with basic emergency procedures and confined water skills is required to safely focus on dry suit techniques.
Instructors provide personalised coaching and practical tips, ensuring every diver gains confidence in using a dry suit. The course balances skill development with fun, engaging sessions in pool and open water.
Training across multiple sites exposes you to different water conditions, improving adaptability and safety in cold water diving. By completing this course, you’ll have the skills and confidence to enjoy North Sea or cold water dives safely.
You need to be a certified diver with previous experience in open water diving. The course is designed for divers wanting to extend their skills to cold water environments using a dry suit.
It’s suitable for anyone preparing for UK dives or colder conditions abroad where dry suits are required.
The course includes 1 confined water dive in the pool and 2 open water dives. These allow you to practise entries, exits, buoyancy, and emergency procedures.
Each dive provides supervised experience in real conditions, helping consolidate the skills learned in the pool.
You’ll master safe dry suit entries, exits, and buoyancy control, including trim adjustments underwater.
The course also covers equipment management, air usage, and handling emergencies specific to dry suit diving, ensuring safe and confident cold water dives.
Open water dives take place at Capernwray quarry, Ellerton inland lake, or Beadnell Bay, depending on conditions.
These locations offer varied experiences: sheltered quarry features, silty inland lake, and coastal shore dives, allowing you to develop skills in multiple environments.
Pool sessions include all standard scuba and dry suit equipment. Open water dives may require additional gear, which can be hired if needed.
Instructors ensure all equipment is properly fitted and functioning before every dive to guarantee safety and comfort.
Transport, dive site fees, and extra equipment hire are not included. Personal insurance is the responsibility of the diver.
These costs depend on the dive location and any optional equipment you may need.
Learning dry suit diving improves your buoyancy control, extends underwater comfort in cold conditions, and allows longer dive times.
By practising in both pool and open water, you gain confidence and safety skills that are applicable to any cold water dive.
