Building experience after certification allows divers to tailor their training towards specific interests and goals. With a selection of internationally recognised speciality courses available, divers can develop new skills, increase confidence, and explore different areas of recreational and technical diving under expert guidance.
Nitrox Enriched Air
Completed over 1 day, this speciality teaches divers how to safely use enriched air nitrox to extend no-decompression limits and reduce surface intervals. Training covers gas analysis, oxygen exposure management, dive computer configuration, and includes a sea dive to apply the knowledge gained.
Deep Diver
Taking 2-4 days to complete, this course develops the skills required for diving between 18 and 40 metres. Divers learn deep dive planning, gas management, equipment considerations, and emergency procedures while completing four open water dives.
Dry Suit Diver
Delivered over 2-3 days, this speciality introduces the use of dry suits for diving in cooler water conditions. Training focuses on buoyancy control, suit management, maintenance, and practical techniques through three training dives.
Self-Reliant Diver
This 2-day programme is designed for highly experienced divers who want to develop greater independence underwater. Topics include advanced gas management, equipment redundancy, emergency planning, risk assessment, and self-sufficiency techniques through theory sessions and two sea dives.
Tec 40
Completed over 3-4 days, Tec 40 is the first step into technical diving and introduces decompression procedures, technical equipment configurations, advanced planning, and gas management. The course includes theory modules, practical application sessions, and four sea dives leading towards technical diver certification.
Surrounded by some of Mallorca's most popular diving areas, Santa Ponça provides excellent conditions for speciality diver training throughout the season. Clear waters, varied underwater landscapes, and convenient boat access allow instructors to select suitable sites for each course.
Away from the dive sites, the town offers beaches, a marina, waterfront restaurants, and scenic coastal walks. Its position on Mallorca's southwest coast makes it an ideal base for divers looking to combine training with time exploring the island.
Progressing through speciality certifications allows divers to focus on the aspects of diving they enjoy most while building practical experience in a structured environment. Flexible scheduling and personalised instruction help ensure that training is both enjoyable and effective.
Extensive teaching experience, recognised certifications, quality equipment, and access to a variety of training sites combine to create a supportive learning environment. Whether developing recreational skills or taking the first step into technical diving, each course is designed to increase confidence and competence underwater.
The best choice depends on your interests, current certification level, and future diving goals.
Many divers begin with Nitrox or Deep Diver certifications, while others choose Dry Suit Diver, Self-Reliant Diver, or Tec 40 depending on the environments and types of diving they wish to pursue.
Nitrox is one of the most popular speciality certifications worldwide.
It allows divers to extend no-decompression limits on many dives and can reduce surface intervals, making it particularly useful for frequent diving and multi-dive days.
The Deep Diver speciality introduces techniques and procedures for diving between 18 and 40 metres.
Training focuses on planning and conducting deeper dives safely while managing the additional considerations associated with increased depth.
Most speciality courses include the necessary diving equipment.
The exception is the Self-Reliant Diver course, where participants are expected to own and be familiar with their own equipment due to the nature of the training.
Tec 40 is the first level of technical diving training within the PADI TecRec system.
The course introduces decompression diving procedures and serves as the transition between recreational diving and more advanced technical diving activities.
Dry suits are commonly associated with cooler water environments, but they can also improve comfort during dives in varying conditions.
Learning to use a dry suit correctly also opens up opportunities to dive in destinations where water temperatures may be lower than those typically experienced in Mallorca.
The Self-Reliant Diver course is intended for highly experienced divers.
Participants must hold an Advanced Open Water qualification or equivalent and have at least 100 logged dives before enrolling.
Yes. All certifications awarded through these speciality programmes are internationally recognised.
They can be used when diving with operators and centres around the world, subject to local regulations and conditions.
