Calm Atlantic mornings in Arguineguín are ideal for your first strokes on a stand-up paddleboard, with warm water and stable boards that make standing up feel achievable. Over about two hours you move from a beach briefing through paddling technique to time exploring the bay, with coaching kept encouraging and paced for your group.
Your session begins on the sand at Las Marañuelas with a warm-up and safety chat, then you practise kneeling and standing on wide inflatable boards before heading out on flat water. Your coach stays close while you find balance, adjust your paddle grip, and learn to turn without rushing. If the wind picks up, the session may move to an alternate launch nearby that still suits beginners.
Towards the end, GoPro photos are taken when conditions allow, and a short stretch on the beach closes the lesson. Arrive about 15 minutes early, bring swimwear and water, and mention t-shirt size, health notes, and weight when you book so kit is ready (boards suit riders up to 120 kg).
Arguineguín sits on Gran Canaria's sunny south coast, where Las Marañuelas beach offers sheltered water and easy access from holiday resorts around Maspalomas and Puerto Rico. Paddling here means open sea views toward the island's cliffs without long transfers, and the warm climate lets you learn in swimwear for much of the year.
Should the breeze pick up, your coach may use a second meeting point on the same coastline that keeps the group in manageable conditions. You still launch into Atlantic water, but the emphasis stays on flat, beginner-friendly paddling rather than surf breaks.
No prior paddleboarding experience is needed, and nervous first-timers are welcome. Children from age eight can join when an adult is responsible for them on the water, and you should feel reasonably comfortable near the sea even if you request a life jacket.
Let us know about any health concerns, injuries, or weight over 120 kg when you book so the right board and buoyancy aid can be prepared. Glasses do not float, so consider contact lenses or a strap if you are likely to fall in.
Coaching combines certified SUP, yoga, and fitness training with first-aid cover, so briefings feel thorough without being intimidating. Boards are chosen for stability, and groups are kept small enough that you get individual tips on stance and paddle stroke rather than being left to figure it out alone.
Core kit, optional life jackets, and liability insurance are included, which lets you focus on enjoying the bay. Many guests book a lesson first and return for tours or yoga on the board once they trust their balance.
You meet at Las Marañuelas for introductions, a short warm-up, and a safety talk covering how to carry the board, attach the leash, and fall safely away from the fin. Kit is adjusted to your height and any life jacket request.
On calm water you practise kneeling, standing, and basic steering with the coach alongside. The route stays inside sheltered water while everyone finds balance at their own speed.
Once the group is steady, you explore the bay with coaching on posture and efficient strokes, with GoPro photos when it is safe to do so. Back on the beach you stretch briefly and hand kit back.
No. The lesson is designed for beginners, with wide boards and step-by-step coaching on the beach before you head out. Your instructor adjusts the pace if you prefer to kneel longer or take more time standing up.
If you have paddled before, say so when you book so the on-water route can include a little more distance while the group stays comfortable.
Swimwear, a towel, and drinking water are all you need, plus reef-safe sunscreen applied before you arrive so hands are not slippery on the paddle. A rash guard is provided, and you can request a life jacket when you book.
Bring a change of clothes for afterwards, and mention your t-shirt size in checkout questions so kit is ready at the beach.
Children from age eight are welcome, though suitability depends on the child rather than age alone. An adult should stay responsible for younger paddlers, and little ones can kneel on the board with you rather than standing alone.
Share ages when you book so the instructor can plan board sizes and buoyancy aids.
Sessions usually start at Playa de Las Marañuelas in Arguineguín, with the map pin sent in your confirmation. Arrive about 15 minutes before the start time so the briefing can begin on schedule.
If wind makes the main beach unsuitable, your instructor will direct you to the alternate launch point nearby.
Safety comes first. If sea or wind conditions are unsafe before the session starts, you will be offered a new date or a full refund according to the published cancellation terms.
If conditions change after the activity has begun, the provider may continue with a voucher to rebook within one year rather than a cash refund, as set out in their conditions.
Yes. Board, paddle, leash, and rash guard are included, along with instructor time and insurance. Life jackets and waterproof bags are available if you ask when booking.
You do not need your own board unless you want a discount for bringing one, which you can arrange directly before the session.
Inflatable boards are rated up to 120 kg following manufacturer guidance. Tell us your weight in the booking questions so the correct board is reserved.
If you are close to the limit, the instructor may suggest a wider yoga-style board for extra stability.
Swimming ability is helpful, but a life jacket can be provided if you request one. Many guests feel more confident once they realise they can kneel or sit on the board whenever they like.
Mention any nerves about deep water when you book so seating and routes stay reassuring.
Up to twelve people can be booked, though many sessions run closer to six for a personal feel. Private arrangements are possible if you contact the team with your dates.
Minimum group size for scheduling is two, but a single person can still book and join an existing slot when available.
GoPro photos are part of the lesson when conditions allow, giving you memories of your first time standing on the board. They are included in the session price.
If cameras cannot be used safely because of spray or wind, your instructor will let you know at the beach.

Arguineguín
You'll find calm Atlantic water and year-round sunshine on the south coast of Gran Canaria, where stand-up paddleboarding sits alongside yoga and fitness on the board. Sessions are built for beginners as much as regular paddlers: stable boards, clear briefings, and small groups so you can stand up, breathe, and enjoy the coastline without rushing.
Your instructor brings certified coaching in SUP, SUP yoga, and SUP fitness, with first-aid training and a focus on how you feel on the water as much as technique. Whether you want a first lesson, a guided tour, a yoga flow on the board, or a hire to explore at your own pace, the aim is the same: time on the sea that leaves you balanced, confident, and connected to the moment.
