This one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course is designed to provide the practical skills and knowledge needed to act effectively in a workplace emergency. Whether you're looking to meet HSE requirements or simply feel better prepared, this hands-on training delivers essential first aid techniques in a clear and engaging way.
The Emergency First Aid at Work course is designed to equip participants with the skills to respond to a wide range of medical emergencies in the workplace. Delivered in a supportive and practical environment, the session covers CPR, use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), managing choking incidents, treating wounds and bleeding, recognising and managing shock, and providing care for minor injuries. You’ll also learn about the role and responsibilities of a first-aider, including how to prevent cross-infection, assess a scene quickly and safely, and record incidents accurately.
Training is split into easily digestible modules, combining instructor-led guidance with practical hands-on exercises using top-grade Laerdal Bluetooth feedback manikins. This real-time feedback helps reinforce proper technique and boosts confidence in applying new skills. By the end of the day, successful candidates will meet the HSE's requirements for workplace first aiders and leave with a PDF certificate and supporting handbook for ongoing reference.
You can also book an EFAW Requalification or Annual Refresher:

This course covers a wide range of essential workplace first aid skills. You’ll learn how to assess an emergency situation, carry out CPR, use an automated external defibrillator (AED), treat choking, wounds, bleeding, and manage shock. You’ll also receive guidance on how to care for minor injuries such as cuts, burns, grazes, and splinters.
In addition to practical skills, you’ll be taught about the role of a workplace first-aider. This includes recognising potential cross-infection risks, maintaining accurate records of incidents, and using any available first aid equipment safely. All training is delivered in line with current Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and Resuscitation Council UK guidance.
The Emergency First Aid at Work course runs for 6 hours and is typically completed within a single day. The schedule is broken into short, manageable modules that balance classroom-style instruction with hands-on practical work.
There are regular breaks, and the pace is set to suit the needs of the group. Time is allocated for questions, revision, and practice, ensuring that all participants understand each element before moving on. It’s a practical and interactive session designed to help you retain what you learn.
Yes, absolutely. This course is aimed at complete beginners as well as those refreshing previous training. The content is taught clearly and at a pace that suits all experience levels.
You’ll be given step-by-step instruction on each skill, with lots of opportunity to ask questions and practise using high-quality equipment. No previous knowledge is assumed, so you won’t be expected to know any terminology or techniques before the session starts.
The content of both courses is essentially the same, as HSE guidelines require all key areas to be covered again during a requalification. The main difference is that the requalification is for individuals who already hold an in-date or recently expired EFAW certificate.
It provides a chance to refresh and update your knowledge, practice core skills, and ensure compliance continues without needing to restart from scratch. This is particularly useful for teams managing rolling certification periods across staff.
The Annual Refresher is recommended by the HSE for all workplace first aiders, though it's not legally required. It’s a short 3-hour session that focuses on revisiting the essential skills like CPR, AED use, and managing unconscious casualties.
This is ideal for keeping confidence levels high between full requalification periods and is especially helpful in workplaces where emergencies are rare. It’s also a good opportunity to ask questions and re-engage with best practices without the time commitment of a full course.
Yes, all training follows the latest guidance from the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and the Resuscitation Council UK. The course content is reviewed regularly to reflect any changes in official best practices.
The instructor also draws on current clinical standards and personal experience in emergency healthcare, ensuring that what you’re learning is both relevant and realistic. Any new updates or adjustments are fully explained during the course.
