From the passenger seat of a rear-wheel-drive BMW you feel every slide on the ice while a professional driver takes the wheel. The outing near Rovaniemi lasts about four and a half hours including pickup, and you ride rather than drive. Cars carry a roll cage, special seats and spiked rally tyres.
Helmet on and harness tight, you settle into the racing seat with the roll cage around you before anyone leaves the start. The driver talks through how the car will move on ice, then you sit on the passenger side so you can see the circuit, hear the engine, and feel the first slide without taking the wheel yourself.
Once you are clipped in, the driver works the rear-wheel-drive BMW around the frozen circuit at rally pace, using the spiked tyres for bite on the ice. Snow moves past the glass, braking is short, and each corner is a slide you sit through rather than steer. You stay in that seat for the driving block, then we confirm how you get back into Rovaniemi, because a return drop-off is not part of this outing.
Private ice in the countryside around Rovaniemi holds this circuit, well away from public roads and town traffic. You reach it with us from the city, so you do not need to find the track yourself or drive there in your own car.
We collect you in Rovaniemi. Share your hotel or cabin address so we can plan the run out to the ice. A return drop-off is not part of this outing, and we will confirm how you get back into town when we set the meeting time.
No rally or ice driving experience is required, because you sit beside a professional driver rather than taking the wheel. You should be comfortable wearing a helmet, sitting in a harnessed racing seat, and spending time outdoors in Finnish winter weather between runs.
Wear warm layers and winter boots for the walk from the vehicle to the car. Tell us who is coming so we can shape the session around your group. Anyone who joins should be able to follow simple safety instructions in the passenger seat.
Sitting beside a professional driver is the point of this ice-track session, run by Finnish hosts whose family has welcomed visitors here since 1979. The outing stays with your own group on a private circuit, and the driver is there so you can feel a real rally car without needing a licence for the session.
You ride in a rear-wheel-drive BMW prepared for winter, with a safety roll cage, special seats and spiked rally tyres. Four and a half hours including pickup gives you time to kit up properly and to sit through more than a single token lap.
We collect you in Rovaniemi and drive out to the private ice track in the countryside. On arrival you pull on a helmet and we walk around the rear-wheel-drive BMW so you can see the roll cage, the special seats and the spiked tyres before anyone turns a wheel. Wear your warm layers for the transfer, as you will go straight from the vehicle onto the snow.
You climb into the racing seat beside the professional driver and tighten the harness. The roll cage sits around you, and the driver talks through how the car will move on ice so the first slide is expected. This is a passenger session: you sit, you watch the circuit, and you feel the car, without taking the wheel.
The driver works the BMW around the frozen circuit at rally pace, using the spiked tyres for bite. Snow moves past the glass, braking is short, and each corner is a slide you sit through rather than steer. You stay in that seat for the driving block, then we confirm how you get back into town.
You do not take the wheel on this outing. A professional driver sits in the driver's seat and you ride beside them, clipped into a racing seat with a harness, so you can feel how a rally car moves on ice without needing to steer.
If you want time behind the wheel instead, that is a different ice-track driving session. This one is built for guests who want the passenger view: the sound, the slide, and the pace of a prepared BMW on frozen snow.
This is a passenger session rather than a hike, so you do not need a high level of fitness. You should be comfortable sitting in a harnessed racing seat, wearing a helmet, and spending time outdoors between runs in Finnish winter weather.
If you get cold easily, dress in warm layers you can add or remove, and wear proper winter boots for the walk from the vehicle to the car. We can pause between stints so you can warm your hands before the next run.
Tell us the ages in your group so we can say whether the passenger seat and the four and a half hours will suit everyone who wants to come. The outing is an easy introduction, and nobody is asked to drive.
Everyone who joins should be able to sit in a harness, follow simple safety instructions, and spend time on open ice. Bring extra layers for younger guests, as they cool down faster once you stop moving.
Wear warm layers, a hat that can sit under a helmet, and winter boots with a decent sole. We give you a helmet for the time you are in the car, so you do not need to pack motorsport kit of your own.
Leave jewellery and loose scarves in your bag. A small dry bag for your phone is useful. Have your hotel or cabin address ready so we can plan pickup in Rovaniemi.
Every car has a safety roll cage, special seats and spiked rally tyres, and you wear a helmet and a harness for the driving block. The professional driver talks through how the car will move on ice before you leave the start, so the first slide is not a surprise.
You stay in the passenger seat for the runs. If you want to pause, say so, and we can take a break beside the track before the next circuit.
The whole session is about four and a half hours, including pickup in Rovaniemi, time to kit up, and the runs on the ice. That door-to-door figure is longer than the driving block itself, because the run out to the private circuit takes a share of the time.
We will confirm timings once we have your address. Be ready when we send you a collection time so the drive to the ice stays on schedule.
The session needs a sound ice surface, so we watch the temperature and the state of the track before we set out. Soft ice, heavy snowfall or a sudden thaw can mean we have to move your time or stop the day for safety.
If we cannot run, we will be in touch as early as we can with the next step. Please treat this as a winter activity that depends on the lake staying hard enough for cars, not as an indoor session that runs in any weather.
Pickup in Rovaniemi is included. Share your hotel or cabin address so we can plan the run out to the track. We will send you a time once that address is with us.
This outing does not include a return drop-off. We will confirm how you get back into town when we set the meeting time, so you are not left guessing at the edge of the ice.
Meals and drinks are not part of this outing, so eat before we collect you or bring a small snack of your own. The day is about the passenger ride on the ice, not a sit-down meal beside the track.
Pack the warm layers and boots you already own. If you have questions about what we will have with us on the day, ask us in advance.
Most guests feel a little tight in the shoulders on the first lap, and that is normal. You are clipped in, the driver is a professional, and the first circuits stay at a pace you can follow while you get used to the slide.
You are not expected to enjoy every corner at full pace from the start. Tell us if you want to stay slower for longer, and we will keep the session at that pace until you are ready for more speed.
