Take your first full scuba certification on the Murcia coast with a well-paced PADI Open Water Diver programme. You'll complete theory through PADI eLearning at home, then join your instructor in Cabo de Palos for six open water dives spread across three focused days, building the skills to explore to 18 metres worldwide.
After completing PADI eLearning before you arrive, three days on site focus entirely on practical training in Cabo de Palos water. Each morning begins with a detailed briefing, followed by two dives with a surface interval between them so you can rehydrate and review skills before the second immersion.
Your instructor progresses from shallow skill practice to longer open water dives where buoyancy, navigation and emergency procedures feel more like real recreational diving. Sessions run in small groups with personal feedback after every dive, and successful completion earns your PADI Open Water Diver certification recognised worldwide.
Warm, clear Mediterranean water and varied shore and boat access around Cabo de Palos make this an inspiring place to learn. Beginners often see colourful reef fish, octopus and occasional rays within their first few training dives in the marine reserve.
Our school base is in nearby Los Belones, a short drive from the Cabo de Palos waterfront. Murcia's calm climate often offers reliable conditions for training dives along this stretch of coast.
No previous diving experience is required, though comfort in water helps. You must be at least 10 years old and able to complete the basic swim and float test required by PADI standards before starting open water training.
Anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian present on training days. Tell your instructor about any concerns at the first briefing so we can adjust pace and practice time across all three days.
Learning to dive should feel structured rather than rushed. We keep groups small so you get personal feedback on every skill and plenty of time underwater to build real confidence across six training dives.
Theory is handled through PADI eLearning before you arrive, which means more time in the water during your three days on site. From equipment fitting to your final certification dive, everything is geared towards leaving you a capable, certified Open Water diver.
Before your first pool or sea session, you work through PADI eLearning at your own pace. The modules cover dive theory, equipment, pressure effects and safety planning in clear, interactive lessons you can revisit whenever you need.
Completing theory in advance means your three days on site focus on practical skills and open water dives. Your instructor reviews key points with you at the start of the course and answers any questions before you enter the water.
Day one introduces essential scuba skills in controlled open water conditions. After a detailed briefing, you practise regulator use, mask clearing, buoyancy exercises and emergency procedures with your instructor close at hand.
Two dives on the first day build familiarity with the equipment and underwater environment. By the end of the session you should feel comfortable breathing underwater and moving with reasonable control in shallow to moderate depths.
The second day expands on skills from day one with two more training dives. You refine buoyancy, practise navigation basics and work through scenarios such as controlled ascents and out-of-air drills in a calm, supportive setting.
Depth gradually increases as your confidence grows. Your instructor monitors air consumption, equalisation and buddy awareness throughout, giving feedback after each dive so you know exactly where you stand in the course.
On the final day you complete your last two training dives, demonstrating the skills needed for PADI Open Water certification. These dives feel more like real recreational diving, with your instructor evaluating your readiness to dive independently with a buddy to 18 metres.
Successful completion earns your PADI Open Water Diver certification, recognised worldwide. You leave with a logbook record of your training dives and the foundation for recreational diving holidays.
No prior scuba experience is required for the PADI Open Water Diver programme. It is designed for complete beginners who want a thorough introduction to diving and a recognised certification at the end.
Your instructor starts with fundamental skills in shallow water and builds up gradually across six training dives.
Theory is completed through PADI eLearning before your practical sessions begin. You study modules on dive physics, equipment, planning and safety at your own pace on a phone, tablet or computer.
Finishing eLearning in advance means your three days on site are dedicated to open water training. Your instructor reviews key theory points with you at the start and can clarify anything you found challenging in the online modules.
Most programmes run across three consecutive days, often Monday to Wednesday or Friday to Sunday. Each day includes two dives with sessions running approximately from 08:00 to 14:30, including briefings, surface intervals and debriefs.
There is a rest period between dives so you can rehydrate and recover. Exact start times may shift slightly with weather and site conditions, and your instructor confirms the plan the evening before or at the morning briefing.
You should be comfortable in water and able to complete the PADI swim test, which involves a 200 metre swim or snorkel and floating for 10 minutes. You do not need to be a competitive swimmer, but basic water confidence is important.
If you are unsure about your swimming fitness, mention it before day one. Your instructor can suggest ways to prepare and will support you through the water skills at a pace that keeps you safe and comfortable.
Yes, full scuba equipment is included for every training dive. This covers your wetsuit, BCD, regulator, cylinders, weights, mask, fins and any other kit needed for the conditions on the day.
Your instructor helps you select correctly sized gear and shows you how to assemble and check it before each dive. If you already own a mask or fins that fit well, you are welcome to bring them.
On successful completion you earn the PADI Open Water Diver certification, which allows you to dive to 18 metres with a certified buddy worldwide. PADI is the most widely recognised recreational diving agency, so your qualification travels with you.
Your instructor submits certification paperwork after the final dives. You receive a digital certification card through PADI and can start logging recreational dives straight away.
The minimum age is 10 years old. Younger divers receive the same careful instruction as adults, though depth limits may apply for junior certifications according to PADI standards.
A parent or guardian must accompany anyone under 18 to sign paperwork and may need to stay on site during training. Let us know when you enrol if a child is joining so we can confirm the right schedule and any age-specific requirements.
Training depends on calm enough sea conditions and safe visibility for student dives. If the forecast is unsuitable, we'll reschedule individual dives within a reasonable window so you can complete all six open-water immersions.
Murcia enjoys many settled days throughout the season. Your instructor monitors local conditions and chooses Cabo de Palos sites suited to student level and daily sea state.
Bring swimwear, a towel, sun protection, drinking water and a light snack for surface intervals. A change of clothes for after the dives is useful, especially in cooler months.
Your instructor provides all dive equipment, but you may want a logbook if you already have one. Avoid flying within 18 to 24 hours of your last dive, and plan accommodation near Los Belones or Cabo de Palos for easy access each morning.
With your Open Water certification you can dive independently with a certified buddy to 18 metres at sites worldwide that accept PADI credentials. Many guests return to Cabo de Palos for recreational dives along the coast and in the marine reserve once certified.
Your instructor can suggest local sites and conditions suited to newly qualified divers based on your interests and how you felt during training.
