Perfect for kids aged 8 and up, this introduction to scuba diving takes place in a safe, shallow swimming pool under the guidance of qualified instructors. It’s a great way for children to experience the fun of being underwater using real scuba gear—just like adult divers—without going deep or far. The focus is on enjoyment, safety, and building confidence in the water.
Once your child arrives, they’ll be greeted by friendly instructors who will introduce them to the session in a relaxed and supportive environment. After a short safety briefing, they’ll be shown how to use child-sized scuba gear and get familiar with how it works on land before heading into the pool. Every child is encouraged to go at their own pace, with staff on hand to ensure they feel safe and confident before taking their first breaths underwater.
In the pool, your child will start in the shallow end and practice breathing through a regulator while floating just below the surface. They’ll learn basic underwater skills like hand signals, staying neutral, and moving around with ease. The instructor remains close throughout, guiding them gently and keeping the atmosphere fun and encouraging. The aim is to give each child a sense of adventure while reinforcing the importance of safety and comfort in the water. At the end of the session, they’ll receive a Bubblemaker certificate to take home as a reminder of their first diving experience.
Sessions take place in heated indoor pools in either Wokingham or Swindon. Both venues offer clean, comfortable facilities and shallow water areas that are ideal for beginners.
The pools are easily accessible and have been chosen specifically to support younger divers, with plenty of space and a calm, well-maintained environment for families.
Children must be at least 8 years old and feel comfortable in the water. No prior diving experience is necessary, and non-swimmers can often still take part as long as they’re happy being in the pool with an instructor.
Before the session, a medical form must be reviewed. If your child has any health conditions or has had recent surgery, you may need to get written clearance from a doctor. This ensures the session is both safe and enjoyable for everyone involved.
The centre is a trusted PADI training provider known for making scuba diving accessible and enjoyable for all ages. Instructors have a wealth of experience working with young children and know how to keep things both exciting and secure.
With small group sizes, well-maintained equipment, and welcoming pool environments, the focus is always on safety, confidence, and positive first experiences. Families return year after year thanks to the friendly, professional team who genuinely enjoy introducing the next generation to the underwater world.
The PADI Bubblemaker is an introductory scuba diving experience designed specifically for children aged 8 and older. It takes place in a shallow, heated pool where kids can safely learn the basics of breathing underwater using real scuba equipment. The session focuses on fun, safety, and building confidence without going deep or requiring advanced skills.
This experience is ideal for young beginners who want to try scuba diving in a controlled environment. It helps children get comfortable with the gear and the feeling of being underwater while under the constant supervision of qualified instructors.
Each session typically lasts between 1 to 2 hours. This includes time for a safety briefing, equipment fitting, instruction on basic skills, and the underwater experience itself. The length ensures children remain comfortable and engaged throughout.
The session pace is designed to be relaxed, allowing children to learn at their own speed without feeling rushed. This helps maximise enjoyment and confidence-building during the experience.
Your child will be provided with child-sized scuba gear, including a mask, snorkel, fins, buoyancy control device (BCD), regulator, and air tank. All equipment is carefully maintained and suited for young divers to ensure comfort and safety during the session.
The gear is regularly checked and cleaned to meet safety standards. Instructors will help your child put on the equipment and explain how everything works before entering the water.
No, the Bubblemaker is not a certification course. It’s an introductory experience meant to familiarise children with scuba diving in a controlled environment. However, it provides a great foundation and confidence boost for future certification courses like PADI Open Water Diver.
This experience is a first step for young divers who want to continue with formal training later on. It’s a safe way for children to test their interest in scuba diving before committing to a full course.
Children do not need to be expert swimmers to join. However, they should be comfortable in the water and able to follow instructions. The session takes place in shallow water with constant instructor supervision, providing a safe environment for beginners.
Instructors stay close to every child to assist and support them during the session. This means even those with limited swimming ability can safely enjoy the experience.
The course is run by qualified PADI instructors who supervise all activities closely. Safety briefings cover how to use the equipment and respond underwater. The pool environment is shallow and heated, and instructors remain within arm’s reach of each child at all times.
Emergency protocols are in place and the environment is carefully controlled to minimise any risks. Children are taught to stay calm and communicate using hand signals throughout the session.
