Two days of guided walking around Ambleside, Borrowdale and neighbouring valleys makes a fine introduction to the central Lakes. This relaxed weekend format combines classic low-level routes and moderate fell days with time to enjoy the surroundings.
Day one might explore Derwentwater shores and Borrowdale valleys; day two could take in hills above Ambleside and Langdale. Your guide plans routes suited to the group, manages safety on the hill and keeps a comfortable pace across both days.
Ambleside and Borrowdale weekends follow the same relaxed two-day structure with varied routes each morning. Walks and meeting points for your chosen weekend are confirmed in advance based on the scheduled programme and forecast conditions.
Central and northern Lakeland is the setting, with villages around Ambleside, Keswick and Borrowdale offering valley walks and moderate fells, and Glenridding providing Ullswater-side routes and eastern approaches.
Overnight stays are your own choice. Ambleside, Keswick, Borrowdale and Glenridding all offer plenty of accommodation and evening options within easy reach of the next day's walk.
Reasonable fitness for two consecutive days walking on paths and moderate hills is important. The weekend suits walkers who already enjoy full days on the fells and want to build stamina across back-to-back hill days.
Bring full waterproof kit for both days regardless of forecast. Under-18s must walk with a participating adult who shares responsibility on the hill throughout the weekend.
Across two guided days, we show you more of the Lake District without you needing to plan routes, study maps or hunt for parking each morning. Your guide brings decades of local knowledge to each valley and summit approach.
Walking weekends are a sociable way to explore with a small group of like-minded walkers. We'll adjust the pace and routes to suit conditions while keeping the focus on safe, enjoyable days in outstanding scenery.
The specific routes for each day depend on the scheduled weekend format. Ambleside and Borrowdale programmes cover two full days of guided walking across the central Lakes with varied valley and fell routes.
You'll receive a full schedule with walk names, meeting points and expected distances before your weekend begins.
Accommodation between walk days is not included. Many participants stay in Ambleside, Keswick, Borrowdale or Glenridding villages with good access to the next morning's meeting point.
We can suggest areas to stay when you confirm your dates. You'll arrange your own overnight accommodation for the night between walk days.
Expect two consecutive days of walking on paths and moderate fells, typically five to seven hours each day. Reasonable fitness and stamina for back-to-back hill days is recommended.
Weekend walks are less demanding than summit challenge days but still require proper hill kit and preparation for both days.
