You'll spend the morning and early afternoon on Roatan's west-side reef, with a chocolate tasting stop and time on a private island beach before heading back to the port. It's a straightforward shore day that mixes proper snorkelling time with a relaxed finish on the sand, whether you're new to the water or already comfortable with a mask and fins.
Your day starts with a transfer from the cruise port out to the reef. Your guide will fit your mask, snorkel and fins, talk you through what to expect, and then get you into the water for a guided drift snorkel. You'll visit two sites on the barrier reef with a sandbar stop between them, watching fish, turtles and reef life while your guide stays in the water with the group the whole time.
Because you're drifting with the current rather than swimming hard against it, the session feels relaxed even if you're new to snorkelling. There's a stop at a chocolate factory for tastings, then time on a private island beach where you can swim, sit under an umbrella, or grab a drink from the bar before we drive you back to the port.
The reef session runs off West Bay on Roatan's west side, on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. The water is warm and clear, and on a drift snorkel you can see coral and marine life without having to cover a lot of distance under your own steam.
Beach time is on a nearby private island with white sand and calm water. Cruise guests are collected at the port and returned there after the beach break.
No snorkelling experience is necessary to take part. Basic swimming comfort helps you enjoy the drift sections, and your guide stays close in the water throughout. Children from four years old can join with an adult.
Bring swimwear, a towel and sun protection. Reef-safe sun cream is encouraged where possible.
We run shore days built around cruise schedules, with port pickup and return included so you don't have to worry about timing. Our groups stay small and your guide stays in the water with you rather than leaving you to work things out alone on the reef.
We know the west-side reef well and pace the day so first-time snorkellers and more experienced swimmers both get a good session. Our English-speaking guides handle everything from pickup through return, and the day is planned so you get two proper reef stops plus a relaxed beach finish without feeling rushed back to your ship.
Meet your driver at the cruise port exit for a shared transfer toward the west side of the island. The vehicle is timed around your ship schedule so the reef and beach portions still fit comfortably in the four-hour outing.
Keep your booking confirmation handy and watch for the pickup sign near the port gate named when you booked.
Sample local chocolate and browse souvenirs at the factory stop before heading to the reef. Short tastings are included so you can try island flavours without committing to a large purchase.
The stop also breaks up the drive and gives non-swimmers something to enjoy before the boat session begins.
Two drift snorkel sites on the barrier reef with a sandbar pause between them. Fish, coral and occasional turtle sightings are common in clear water when conditions allow both stops.
Guides stay in the water during the drift so beginners can follow the group without worrying about navigation or strong currents away from the boat.
Relax on a private island beach with chairs, umbrellas and time to swim in calm water. Order a drink from the bar if you want one, or simply sit in the shade after the reef session.
When the group is ready, the driver returns everyone to the cruise port with time to spare before typical all-aboard calls.
Yes. We provide your mask, snorkel and fins for the reef session, and your guide will help you get a comfortable fit before you enter the water.
You're welcome to bring your own mask if you already have one you prefer. We'll still have fins and tubes ready if you only want to use your own mask.
You'll snorkel at two sites on the barrier reef, with a pause at a sandbar between them. Your guide leads the drift so you can watch the coral and fish rather than worrying about where you're going.
After the reef, the day continues to a private island beach where you can swim or find some shade before we head back to the port.
No snorkelling experience is necessary to take part. If you're comfortable swimming and happy to float with the group, you'll get a lot from the session.
Your guide briefs everyone before you get in and stays in the water throughout. Tell us if you're nervous or returning after a long break from snorkelling and we'll keep you close.
Children from four years old can join with an adult. Younger snorkellers should stay with a parent or guardian in the water and follow the guide briefing before entering.
Let us know the ages in your group when you book so we can confirm equipment sizes and space on the boat.
Reef snorkelling depends on conditions on the day. If wind or swell makes two stops unsuitable, we may shorten time in the water or shift more of the outing to the beach and chocolate factory visit.
Your captain and snorkel guide make safety calls on the water. We'll always aim to give you the best possible day within what conditions allow.
Pack swimwear, a towel, sun cream and a light cover-up for the drive. Cash is handy if you want extra drinks at the beach bar or souvenirs beyond the chocolate tasting samples.
Reef-safe sun cream is encouraged where you can find it. Leave heavy valuables on the ship or in your hotel safe when possible.
Beach bar drinks and cocktails are available to order separately. The chocolate factory stop includes tasting samples as part of the visit.
If you want a sit-down lunch, you can order at the beach club or pick something up during the factory stop.
Shared departures run from two to fifteen guests. The snorkel boat is sized for your group on the day rather than a packed catamaran.
If you're travelling with a larger party, mention it when you book and we'll advise whether one departure works or whether to split the group.
We collect you at the cruise port on Roatan. Share your ship name and terminal when you book so your driver knows which exit to meet you at.
Return transfer is included after the beach break, timed around typical cruise schedules. If you're staying on the island rather than on a ship, ask us when you book about hotel pickup.
The day is built around cruise calls. Give us your all-aboard time when you book so we can plan the last run back to the port.
Stay with the group at the beach rather than wandering off independently if you need to be back for sailaway on time.
