Spread the Icefields Parkway and Jasper icons across two unhurried days with a private guide and vehicle sized for your party. Pickup can start from Calgary, Banff or Canmore, then the route north includes lakes, waterfalls and glacier viewpoints before an independent evening in Jasper.
Day 1 is a northbound Icefields Parkway run: Bow Lake reflections, Peyto Lake lookout, rest at Saskatchewan River Crossing, Columbia Icefield viewpoints, then Sunwapta and Athabasca Falls before Jasper hotel check-in on your own reservation. Commentary covers geology, wildlife rules and where to eat in town that evening.
Day 2 stays in Jasper for SkyTram base views, Pyramid Lake, Maligne Canyon paths and Maligne Lake lookouts, with lunch free time downtown. Tram and boat tickets are optional; canyon and lakeshore walks remain accessible without them.
After Jasper sightseeing the guide drives south on the parkway again, adding photo stops when daylight and traffic allow before drop-off in Calgary, Banff or Canmore. Wildlife may appear but is never guaranteed, and each stage is summarised in the itinerary for quick reference.
The route links Banff National Park and Jasper National Park along one of the highest scenic highways in Canada. Elevations and weather change quickly, so layers and waterproof footwear help at lakes and waterfall paths.
Jasper town sits in the Athabasca River valley with easy access to restaurants after Day 1 driving. Return on Day 2 retraces parkway sections with optional photo stops when schedules allow.
No technical hiking skills are required for the standard viewpoints and canyon walkways. Short uphill walks such as Peyto Lake lookout need basic mobility and comfort on stairs or gravel.
Guests must arrange Jasper accommodation before travel and travel with valid ID. Infant seats are available on request when younger children join the private group.
Private format means the pace follows your group instead of a fixed coach timetable. Experienced Rockies guides adjust for photo light, lunch breaks and weather without sacrificing the headline stops.
Tour transport equipment is included for the journey while paid attractions stay transparent. That helps you plan SkyTram or Maligne cruise tickets only if those upgrades matter to your party.
You spend one night in Jasper town at a hotel you reserve separately. We recommend booking early in peak summer because Jasper rooms fill quickly when park visitation is high. Your guide drops you near your check-in on Day 1 and collects you on Day 2 for the return leg along the parkway.
Room type, meals and incidentals at the hotel are not included in the tour fare. Pack an overnight bag for one night while larger luggage stays in the vehicle, and keep confirmation details handy so the guide can plan smooth hand-offs at arrival and departure.
Yes. Jasper accommodation for the night between Day 1 and Day 2 is not included and must be booked in advance, especially in July and August. Your guide coordinates arrival timing but does not reserve rooms for you.
Keep your confirmation handy and share hotel name if asked so pickup on Day 2 is efficient.
Jasper SkyTram, Maligne Lake boat cruises and paid Columbia Icefield experiences such as Ice Explorer rides are not included. You may purchase them on site if you want those upgrades.
The base tour still covers transport and escorted access to free viewpoints and canyon paths listed in the itinerary.
Private pickup is available from Calgary, Banff or Canmore when arranged at booking. Share your hotel or address so the guide plans Day 1 departure time and Day 2 return drop-off.
Exact pickup windows depend on distance to the parkway and your Jasper hotel location.
Your group travels alone with a dedicated guide and vehicle rather than joining strangers on a shared coach. Capacity still respects the stated maximum guest count for safety and comfort.
Only your party rides together across both days unless you invite additional guests within the limit.
Most Day 1 stops are roadside or short walks to viewpoints. Peyto Lake requires a brief uphill path that can feel brisk at altitude but remains manageable for average fitness.
Frequent vehicle breaks and rest areas along the parkway help you pace the long driving day before Jasper check-in.
Elk, sheep, bears and other species may appear along the parkway. Your guide stops only where regulations and safety allow, keeping distance and avoiding feeding or approaching animals.
Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed and should be treated as a bonus rather than an expected checklist item.
Children and infants may travel with a paying adult when seats are requested ahead of time. The two-day format suits families who want shorter walks and more vehicle time than a single marathon day.
Bring snacks, layers and entertainment for long scenic drives between major stops.
Meals are not included. Day 1 includes rest stops where you can buy snacks; Jasper town offers dinner choices after check-in. Day 2 includes lunch free time in Jasper before the return drive.
Many guests pack breakfast items for Day 2 if their hotel plan does not include morning food.
Spring avalanches or winter storms can temporarily close sections of the Icefields Parkway. Guides reroute or adjust stops when officials publish closures, focusing on safe alternatives still inside the parks.
When closures or severe weather make travel impossible, contact us as soon as you can so we can plan a new departure date with your group.
Luggage stays in the vehicle between Day 1 and Day 2, so one medium suitcase or soft bag per person plus a daypack usually works well. Pack an overnight kit with toiletries and anything you need in Jasper that evening.
Heavier bags are fine if your group fills only part of the vehicle, but tight seating is easier when everyone keeps bulky items compact for the long parkway legs.
