Begin your journey in Kathmandu with an early morning scenic drive toward the Kerung Border, the main entry point between Nepal and Tibet. The 145-kilometer drive takes you through beautiful Nepali landscapes, passing green valleys, terraced hillsides, flowing rivers, and small rural villages. Upon arrival at the border, you will complete the required formalities at Nepali immigration before crossing the bridge into Tibet. After finishing entry procedures at Chinese immigration, the journey continues with a drive to Kerung Town. You will check in at the Kerung Hotel for an overnight stay. This first day marks a gradual transition from Nepal’s lively atmosphere to the calm, high-altitude landscapes and cultural setting of Tibet, preparing you for the journey ahead.
After breakfast, begin a scenic drive from Kerung to Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet. The journey takes you across the high Gyatchu La Pass (5,220 meters), where you can enjoy wide panoramic views of the Himalayan landscape and surrounding mountains. Along the way, pass through the small town of Lhatse, known for its traditional Tibetan houses and local way of life. Upon arrival in Shigatse, check in at the Yak Hotel. In the evening, take time to explore this historic city, which is home to the famous Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama. This day combines high-altitude scenery with cultural experiences, helping you gain a deeper understanding of Tibet’s heritage and landscape.
Spend the next two days exploring the cultural and spiritual heart of Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. Begin with a visit to the sacred Jokhang Temple, considered the most important temple in Tibetan Buddhism, where you can observe pilgrims performing daily rituals and prayers. Continue to the lively Barkhor Bazaar, a circular market area filled with traditional handicrafts, prayer items, and local street life. Visit the iconic Potala Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its remarkable Tibetan architecture, historic importance, and panoramic views over Lhasa city. In addition, explore Drepung and Sera Monasteries, two of Tibet’s largest monastic institutions, where you can learn about monastic education and witness the famous monk debates. These two days in Lhasa offer a deep and meaningful understanding of Tibetan history, culture, and religious traditions.
Early in the morning, begin your drive toward one of the main highlights of the journey, Everest Base Camp. As the road climbs higher, enjoy spectacular views of the Himalayan range and the dramatic landscapes surrounding the world’s highest peak. Upon reaching Everest Base Camp (North Side), take time to absorb the powerful atmosphere and admire the close-up views of Mount Everest. Visit Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world, set against the backdrop of towering mountains. After exploring the area, start your return drive toward Kerung, where you will check in to a hotel for an overnight stay. This day offers a true sense of adventure, combining natural beauty, spiritual sites, and unforgettable high-altitude scenery.
