Enjoy a half-day of adventure in the North Highlands with a mix of sightseeing and outdoor sports. This package combines a visit to a local landmark with guided lessons in both archery and clay shooting, making it an excellent way to spend time in the Dornoch area.
Your day begins with collection from your accommodation in the Dornoch area, where you will be introduced to your guide and given an outline of the session ahead. The first stop is the Shin Falls, a well-known site where salmon can often be seen leaping upstream. Your guide will share insights about the local wildlife and history as you take in the surroundings.
Afterwards, you will head to the Highland Shooting Centre near Rosehall for the activities. Over the course of two hours, you will receive a combination of clay pigeon shooting and target archery, taught in a structured but relaxed way. Each lesson is personalised to your ability, ensuring both beginners and more experienced participants gain new skills. At the end of the session, you will return to your accommodation with both memories of the sights and the enjoyment of hands-on activities.
The trip begins in Dornoch, a town in the North Highlands of Scotland, known for its sweeping coastal views, golf course, and medieval cathedral. The base at Sydera Croft offers convenient access to a wide range of outdoor pursuits while still being close to the town.
The activities themselves take place near Rosehall at the Highland Shooting Centre, surrounded by moorland and woodland typical of Sutherland. Along the way, you’ll stop at Shin Falls, a natural feature of the River Shin and a popular place to view wild Atlantic salmon making their seasonal migration.
All participants must be comfortable handling sporting equipment under supervision. Beginners are welcome, as both archery and clay shooting lessons are taught with full instruction and safety briefings.
A general level of fitness is recommended, as some light walking is involved when visiting Shin Falls. All equipment is provided, but participants should wear weather-appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear.
The team is based in the heart of the North Highlands and combines local knowledge with professional instruction. This ensures that your experience is not just about the activities themselves, but also about learning more about the area you are visiting.
By offering small-group experiences, every participant receives individual attention, allowing for a more relaxed and personalised approach. The Shoot and Scoot package is carefully designed to balance sightseeing with activity, giving you the chance to enjoy the landscapes of the Highlands while trying your hand at two popular sports.
The sightseeing element of the tour takes you to Shin Falls, a local highlight just outside the Dornoch area, where you can often see salmon leaping upstream. It’s a scenic stop that gives a glimpse into the natural rhythms of the Highlands.
The activity portion is held at the Highland Shooting Centre near Rosehall. This location provides a safe, professional environment with a suitable set-up for both archery and clay pigeon shooting.
The package is designed to run for approximately four hours. This includes collection from your accommodation, travel to Shin Falls, time to explore the area, and then onward travel to the shooting centre for the activities. It finishes with a return journey back to your accommodation in the Dornoch area.
The time is carefully balanced to ensure that you don’t feel rushed while still fitting in both sightseeing and two hours of sports instruction. The guide keeps things flexible, adjusting slightly based on group pace and weather conditions, so the experience always feels comfortable.
No experience is necessary. The sessions are fully guided and start with clear safety briefings and basic instruction to help you feel confident handling the equipment. Whether you’re trying these sports for the first time or looking to sharpen your technique, the instructor adapts the lessons to your skill level.
Even if you’ve never picked up a bow or shotgun before, you’ll find the learning process straightforward and enjoyable. The aim is for you to come away with both new skills and a sense of achievement.
Yes, all the necessary equipment for both archery and clay pigeon shooting is included in the price. You will be supplied with bows, arrows, clay targets, and firearms appropriate to your size and ability. Everything is maintained to a high standard for safety and performance.
You don’t need to bring any specialist gear, although wearing comfortable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear is recommended. Waterproofs are also a good idea in case of wet weather.
The standard group size is between one and four participants, which allows for a personalised experience with plenty of individual instruction. However, larger groups can be arranged on request with advance notice.
If you’re planning a stag, hen, or corporate outing, the package can be adapted to include bigger numbers. The activities may be extended or divided into smaller groups to ensure everyone still has quality time with the instructor.
It’s recommended that you wear practical outdoor clothing suited to the Highland climate. Layers are best, as the weather can change quickly. Sturdy footwear, such as walking boots or trainers, is important for comfort and safety.
Bringing a waterproof jacket is also sensible, especially if rain is likely. You don’t need specialist clothing for the activities, but avoiding loose or dangling items is helpful when handling equipment.
The tour is available year-round but remains weather-dependent. In light rain or cooler conditions, the activities usually go ahead as planned. However, in the case of severe weather such as heavy storms or high winds, it may be necessary to postpone or reschedule for safety reasons.
If the session needs to be changed due to weather, the team will contact you as early as possible to offer alternative arrangements or dates. Your safety and enjoyment always come first.
