A green day in Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park sits just north of Kathmandu. You can take the Bishnu Dwar forest walk or the Shivapuri hike with lunch. Each one is a full outing with a guide, park entry, and hotel pickup.
Two forest days share the same park and the same Kathmandu hotel pickup. An English-speaking guide meets you, drives to the gate, and buys the park ticket so you can start walking without sorting entry yourself.
The Bishnu Dwar walk is about seven hours, with five to six hours on the trail and around 18 kilometres toward the source of the Bagmati and Bishnumati. Meals are not included on this option, so bring a packed lunch and at least two litres of water.
The Shivapuri hike is about six and a half hours, with lunch, a private vehicle, and a high point of 2,732 metres. It is set up for families and first-time walkers. On a clear morning the hills can open toward Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, and Gaurishankar before we drive you back to the hotel.
Shivapuri National Park sits about 12 kilometres north of central Kathmandu, covering 159 square kilometres of forest on the valley rim. Birds, butterflies, and deer use these woods, and the Bagmati and Bishnumati begin here.
Pickup is from hotels inside the Kathmandu ring road. The drive to the gate is short, so most of the day is walking rather than sitting in traffic.
You need to be 6 or older. You do not need previous hiking experience. You should be happy walking for several hours on forest paths.
These hikes are not recommended if you have a back or heart condition, or if you are pregnant. Wear light walking shoes and tell us about any medical or dietary needs before you come.
Forest days leave from the same Lazimpat office that has sent English-speaking guides across the valley for two decades. We'll collect you from your Kathmandu hotel, stay with your group at the gate, and bring you home.
Park tickets, water stops, and the return drive sit with one desk. You will not be left to find the entrance on your own.
We'll collect you from your Kathmandu hotel and drive to the park. You'll walk about 18 kilometres over five to six hours toward Bishnu Dwar, where the Bagmati and Bishnumati rivers begin. The high point is 2,732 metres. This day is set up for families and first-time walkers.
Your guide meets you at the hotel, handles the national park ticket at the gate, and keeps the pace easy through the forest. You'll have time to stop for birds and views before the drive back into the city.
We'll drop you at the same Kathmandu hotel at the end of the day. Pickup outside the ring road is available for an extra charge if that is where you are staying.

These hikes are not recommended if you have a back or heart condition, or if you are pregnant.
Please tell us about any medical needs when you book so we can advise before the morning start.
