Tackle the legendary 90 km Samoeng Mountain Loop on tarmac roads around Doi Suthep National Park. This full-day road ride packs roughly 45 km of climbing, forest viewpoints and a rewarding descent back to Chiang Mai with hotel pickup, bike hire, lunch and vehicle support included.
Early pickup brings you to our shop for bike and gear fitting before rolling south toward Doi Suthep National Park. Within an hour the road tilts upward and the main climb begins toward the western forests.
After roughly two and a half hours of ascent with spectacular viewpoints across Doi Suthep National Park, lunch on the north side of the park sets you up for a long downhill to the valley floor. Vehicle support follows the route if you need a breather on the 90 km loop.
The return leg rolls back into Chiang Mai by late afternoon, a full day on the bike through Samoeng district farmland and forested ridges.
The Samoeng loop circles Doi Suthep National Park west of Chiang Mai through Samoeng district farmland and forested ridges. Tarmac roads link panoramic lookouts with quiet rural villages away from city traffic. Western viewpoints open across the national park canopy and Mae Ping valley on clear days, reward for the sustained climbing that defines this classic road loop.
Village markets and roadside fruit stalls punctuate the quieter rural sections. It is a favourite local challenge for fit road cyclists visiting northern Thailand, with scenery that justifies every metre of ascent.
Excellent fitness and road cycling experience are essential. Expect sustained climbing, fast descents and a full day on the bike. Shorter variants suit riders who want the scenery without the full 90 km effort.
Wear cycling clothes or firm shoes, bring a day pack for personal snacks and plenty of water. Sunscreen and a light rain layer are sensible in changeable mountain weather.
We support road cyclists on the Samoeng loop and valley tours with vehicle backup, local route knowledge and quality bikes from our Chiang Mai base. Our guides know where the climbs bite, where the views open up and how to pace a full day in northern Thailand's heat.
We'll handle pickup, bike fitting and support on the road. Whether you're tackling the full loop or a shorter variant, you'll ride with a team that knows these tarmac roads as well as any local club.
Hotel pickup around 8:00am brings you to the shop for sign-up, bike selection and helmet fitting. Guides brief the day's route and check your setup before the 8:30am road start toward Doi Suthep National Park.
The loop begins from the south side of the park. Within the first hour the road climbs steadily toward the western forests with regular water stops and photo breaks at forest viewpoints along the ridge.
After roughly two and a half hours of climbing you reach the north side of the park for a light lunch and a chance to rest legs before the long descent. Vehicle support stays nearby for kit and water.
An extended downhill carries you to the valley floor and back toward Chiang Mai. You roll into the city in the late afternoon with hotel drop-off around 5:30pm after a full 90 km loop.
This is a demanding 90 km loop with roughly 45 km of climbing on tarmac roads around Doi Suthep National Park. You need strong road cycling fitness and confidence on mountain descents. Pace yourself on climbs and drink water regularly throughout the day.
Guides adjust rest stops to match the group so everyone can enjoy the scenery without rushing. Shorter 60 km and 45 km versions with later starts and earlier pickup are available if the full loop feels too ambitious.
Hotel pickup is around 8:00am with bike fitting at the shop before an 8:30am start on the road. You return to your Chiang Mai hotel around 5:30pm after the full loop.
Expect five or more hours in the saddle plus stops for photos, lunch and water refills on the north side of the park.
Yes. Drinking water and a light lunch on the north side of Doi Suthep National Park are included. Vehicle support can carry extra kit so you ride without a heavy pack.
Dietary preferences can usually be accommodated with advance notice. Bring a small snack if you like extra energy between scheduled meal stops. Bring snacks you like for long climbs and tell your guide about any dietary needs when you confirm your trip.
Riders from 16 years can join this road ride. The route demands sustained climbing and long descents on public roads, so it suits experienced teenage cyclists with good fitness. Be sure your child is comfortable with the duration and terrain.
Correctly sized equipment is provided on the day where applicable. Be sure younger riders have the endurance and road awareness for a full day in the mountains.
A road bike or hybrid suitable for tarmac is supplied with helmet. Wear cycling kit or firm shoes and shorts that allow free leg movement on long climbs. Seat height and brakes are checked before you set off.
Bring firm closed-toe shoes and sunglasses for comfort on longer riding sections. Padded cycling shorts are strongly recommended for a 90 km day with extended uphill sections.
The loop circumnavigates Doi Suthep National Park through Samoeng countryside with forest viewpoints on the western flank. You approach from the south, climb through the morning and enjoy a long downhill to the valley floor in the afternoon.
Panoramic stops are built into the route for photos across the mountainous terrain.
Vehicle support follows the group for safety, water and optional pickup if you choose a shorter version of the ride. This lets you focus on pedalling without carrying a heavy day pack. Quick-dry clothing works best on the water.
Secure glasses with a strap and keep valuables in a dry bag provided or brought from your hotel. Discuss shorter route options with your guide on the day if conditions or energy levels change.
The ride runs daily in dry and wet season. Rain can make descents slick; guides may adjust timing or offer shorter variants in heavy weather. Light rain often adds atmosphere without stopping the trip.
Pack a light rain layer and a dry bag for electronics if showers are forecast. Pack a light rain jacket and clear glasses for green season rides through the national park.
Groups run from solo riders upward with daily departures. Minimum trip is one person so you can join without forming a private group.
Fit cyclists often treat this loop as a benchmark challenge when training in northern Thailand.
Yes. Pickup and drop-off from hotels and guesthouses in Chiang Mai city centre are included. You are transferred to the shop for sign-up and bike fitting before the road start.
Share your accommodation details ahead of the trip so the driver can find you easily. Allow a few minutes either side of the stated pickup window. Northern Thailand heat and humidity can be tiring, so hydrate often and use sun protection even on cloudy days.
