Natural rock just outside Kathmandu is where you'll spend the day, on the faces inside Nagarjun Forest Reserve. Your instructor is an English-speaking climbing guide who runs the rope while you work the holds. Helmet, harness, and a packed lunch travel with you from hotel pickup to the last pitch.
We'll collect you from your Kathmandu hotel and drive to Nagarjun Forest Reserve. At the crag you'll meet the guide, fit a harness and helmet, and hear the safety brief before you touch the rock.
After the brief you'll climb a mix of natural routes while the guide holds the rope and coaches your feet and hands. Packed lunch sits in the forest between pitches, and the rock is at its best from October to May. Beginners and climbers who already know the rope share the same crag, on lines that match the group.
If time and weather allow, you'll walk in the Shivapuri watershed after the climbs. During the session you wear the helmet and harness on every pitch and follow the guide. We'll drive you back to the same hotel at the end of the day.
Nagarjun Forest Reserve sits on the edge of the Kathmandu Valley, with natural rock in the trees and short approaches from the road. The crag is a short drive from the city, so you spend the day on the rock rather than in traffic.
We'll collect you from hotels inside Kathmandu and drive you to the reserve gate. The day finishes back at the same hotel, so you do not need to find the forest trail on your own.
You do not need previous climbing experience. You should be fit enough to climb for several hours and happy to follow safety instructions.
The day is not recommended if you have a back or heart condition, or if you are pregnant. Bring sturdy shoes and your passport.
Ropes stay with an English-speaking climbing guide who has been leading days out of Lazimpat for more than two decades, not a drop-off at the crag. We'll collect you in Kathmandu, carry the packed lunch, and handle park entry so you walk to the rock with kit already fitted.
Guides set routes to the people who turn up that morning. Helmet and harness go on before you leave the ground, and pickup is from your hotel rather than a roadside meet.
